The Astrological Ages Gnostic Muse the Great Year The Astrological Ages Gnostic Muse The Great Year The Great Year, also called the Platonic Year, is the voyage of our solar system through its complete orbit around the star Alcyone. In this process our solar system passes under the influence of each sign in the zodiacal belt. This Great Year lasts 25,968 years and consists of twelve astrological ages. Each astrological age corresponds to a different sign of the zodiac and lasts approximately 2000 to 2500 years depending on the size of the constellation and other factors. The zodiacal sign of the age embodies the spirit or message of the dominant civilizations of the time. The predominate religion or culture of a given age becomes the matrix from which the next major religious or cultural force is born. With the law of polarity, often the polar opposite zodiac sign will also make its mark during the astrological age. The following article covers the ages of Gemini through Aquarius. The age of Gemini is considered the era of recorded history, and finding information about the ages before that is difficult. The age of Aquarius is our current age according to Samael Aun Weor. Age of Gemini 6840 BC – 4320 BC The age of Gemini was characterized by the emergence of writing, agriculture and organized religion. Writing began during this Age as pictographs in China and India, cuneiform in Sumeria and Hieroglyphs in Egypt. The great Epic of Gilgamesh has been dated to this time period, and this time period was also a time of great expansion and trade along the Silk Road. Gemini is the sign of the twins, and is ruled by the planet Mercury, related to communication, interaction, ideas and duality. The opposite sign of Gemimi is Sagittarius which is related to philosophy, religion and priesthood, shown in the age of Gemini’s establishment of many organized religions. Age of Taurus 4320 BC – 2160 BC https://www.gnosticmuse.com The Astrological Ages Gnostic Muse Taurus is an Earth sign ruled by the planet Venus, and governs fertility, stability, wealth, agriculture and land. During the Age of Taurus the agricultural civilizations reaching their peak. The Mesopotamian civilization created money and a system of banking and established the great ziggurats. Egyptian civilization was provided with rich soil for agriculture by the regular flooding of the Nile river. The Bull god is also present in Assyria, Crete and Egypt. The opposite sign of Taurus is Scorpio the sign of death, resurrection, and immortality. Scorpio embodies the deep mythology of death and the afterlife in Egypt, and the symbology of the god Osiris and the missing phallus illustrate the sexual mysteries of this sign. Apis the Bull-headed god was one aspect of Ptah, and one of the 5 major gods along with Ra, Isis, Osiris and Amun. Khnum with Ram’s head is the third aspect of Ra, who started to become more prominently worshiped in the Age of Aries. Age of Aries 2160 BC – Year 0 https://www.gnosticmuse.com The Astrological Ages Gnostic Muse Aries is a fire sign, driven, ambitious and individualistic, ruled by the planet Mars. Aries is the archetype of the solar hero, the singular person who battles and overcomes obstacles to achieve their goal, however noble or base. The journey from the age of Taurus to Aries is shown in the story of Exodus, Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses was raised in the house of Pharaoh, meaning he was initiated into the Egyptian mysteries, but then as the attacks became too severe upon his people he head them out of Egypt and symbolically into the age of Aries. First there is the rejection of the Bull in the form of golden calf by Moses, and bringing in the Ram with the blowing of the shofar, the ram’s horn. The Ten Commandments are representative of Libra, the Law, which is the opposite sign of Aries. During this time period were great wars and the expansion of the Roman empire. Greek civilization celebrated the Olympic ideals, the solar hero, in short, the virtue of individuality casting off the stability and stagnation of the old Taurus age. This was the Age of Iron, the metal related with Mars which rules Aries. In China the Shang and Chou dynasties were powerful militaries that overthrew the previous peaceful Lung Shan dynasty and ruled from 1850 BC – 1122 BC Judaism came out of Egyptian culture via Moses, and Christianity came out of Jewish culture by way of Jesus. Age of Pisces Year 0-1962 AD https://www.gnosticmuse.com The Astrological Ages Gnostic Muse Pisces is a water sign ruled by the planets Jupiter and Neptune, it signifies the mysterious great ocean which dissolves all forms and structures. During the age of Pisces we see that although Rome was unified it was starting to degenerate and begin its long fall. In India, Hinduism started to elevate the transcendent gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva over the warrior gods such as Agni. The opposite sign of Pisces is Virgo, the Virgin. Emphasizing chastity in many of these religions and sadly degenerating away from a loving devotional approach to sexuality to a rigid repression. Age of Aquarius: 1962 AD to Present Many astrologers say that the age of Aquarius is yet to come, but Samael Aun Weor teaches that as of 1962 we are in the new age of Aquarius. The age of Pisces is over, and with it the backwards way of approaching sexuality with hatred or fear. The age of Aquarius is about sexual transmutation, which brings about true love for God and humanity. • New Age and Neopagan Religions in America
CHAPTER SEVEN The Age of Aquarius Although the idea of a New Age was popularized by Alice Bailey in the early twentieth century, the term had been around at least since the American Rev- olution before it was used self-consciously by Theosophists like her who be- lieved a “master” would come to enlighten humanity and usher us into a new age. The concept picked up relevance as the s counterculture looked to- ward the Age of Aquarius as a utopian future of peace and equality. Move- ments aimed at social and personal transformation that emerged or were given new meaning in the s continue to shape New Age and Neopagan religions. Ideas about the expected new era vary among Neopagans and New Agers, just as they ranged in the s from social revolution to com- munal escape from society. But most agree that it will include a changed dy- namic between men and women, healthy diet, holistic healing practices, and peacefulness. Along with and related to holistic healing and feminist restructuring, en- vironmentalist concerns are seen as key in bringing about the transformation of society. Many New Agers and Neopagans believe that an ecologically vi- able relationship to the natural world will characterize the future age, when humans will live more harmoniously on earth. Some also believe the earth it- self, a living being that has been ill used by humanity, will bring about cata- clysmic changes, while others expect a gradual dawning of enlightened con- sciousness among large numbers of people to usher in the New Age. Goddess religion will emerge from a “Great Purification,” claim some ob- servers, borrowing a phrase from Hopi prophecy: “Look at the freak weather phenomena all around us .

  • The Age of Aquarius by Don Cerow, NCGR IV
The Age of Aquarius by Don Cerow, NCGR IV Welcome to the Age of Aquarius.* We are a generation that is perched on the dawn of a new epoch, a new vibration. The world is changing. Everything from politics to industry to our mortgages turns on a new pivot, and we are lucky enough to be able to witness the unfolding. There are those who feel as though the Age has already begun. Others believe that the Age is not yet here, and the called for changes have not yet fully unfolded. Both are correct. As we look around us, electricity fills the air. Lights, power, technology, refrigeration, computers, smart phones, microchips, and science are all manifestations of the New Age at work, of a brave new world already (up and running). But the use of fossil fuels, oil, coal, and natural gas, the inability of Congress to get things done due to party allegiances, the growing intensity of storms and the general weather patterns, are all indications Alpha Piscium and Omega Piscium are the stars thought by Don Cerow that the Age of Pisces is not yet over. to observationally “benchmark” the Age of Pisces. We are building to a crescendo with the warming of the planet being the Revelation 22:13 says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” When Revelation was written in the first century AD, the substantial catalyst that inaugurates “New Age” (Pisces) stretched out before them, describing what the future would hold. these changes.

  • What Plato Expects from Astronomy
The Day, the Month, and the Year: What Plato Expects from Astronomy István M. Bodnár Abstract The Timaeus apparently assigns a different task to astronomy than that in the educa- tional programme set out in the Republic. There is no word about the reorientation re- quired in the Republic that astronomers should ascend to a post-observational study of “the real decorations [of the heavens]—the real movements that these move by true quickness and true slowness in true number and in all true figures in relation to each other, carrying along the things contained in them, which can be grasped by reason and thought, and not by sight.” (Republic 529d) Nevertheless, I argue that—albeit with vastly different theoretical presuppositions about perceptible entities—the Timaeus takes into consideration some of the strictures of the Republic. Similar to the way the reform of as- tronomy required in the Republic, only such observational astronomy can pass muster in the Timaeus whose major aim is to reduce the regularities of the motions of the different celestial objects to components that are connected to the fundamental motions of the World Soul. This enterprise can be claimed—within the confines of this likely story—to integrate in its fully developed form every important intellectual pursuit there is. Keywords Plato – Timaeus – observational astronomy – educational programme – celestial periods – component motions – intellect – unity of science If we compare the account of astronomy in the educational programme of the Republic and in the Timaeus, we see that in the Timaeus astronomy has taken on a central role it was not yet assigned in the Republic.

  • M. A. Van Der Sluijs
Phaethon and the Great Year1 Marinus Anthony van der Sluijs 1 The Great Year The Great Year was a widespread concept in classical times. Cicero's spokesman, the Stoic Balbus, defined it as follows: On the diverse motions of the planets the mathematicians have based what they call the Great Year, which is completed when the sun, moon and five planets having all finished their courses have returned to the same positions relative to one another. The length of this period is hotly debated, but it must necessarily be a fixed and definite time.2 It was believed that the horning points of the Great Year were marked by cosmic disruptions. During the Hellenistic period, two such turning points were recognised and interpreted as the 'solstices' of the Great Year: the world would be destroyed in a flood at the onset of the cosmic winter and in a fire at the onset of the cosmic summer. The locus classicus for this belief is an excerpt from the Babyloniaca of the Babylonian priest Berossus, as cited in Seneca: 1 Without the unrelenting support of the Mainwaring Archive Foundation this article could not have been completed. • Teachings of the Temple — Volume Ii Hilarion
TEACHINGS OF THE TEMPLE — VOLUME II HILARION 2 Dedicated to Humanity tttt 3 THE TEMPLE OF THE NEW AGE The Temple of the People is an integral part of the Theosophical Movement, which is based upon a world-old body of spiritual lore called the Wisdom Religion. Man has never been without the knowledge of his nature, origin, and destiny. This knowledge is contained in the Wisdom Religion in its fullness, and is held intact by the Karmic Lords of the race, to be restated to man authoritatively, i.e., in its purity, from time to time as the cycles of evolution permit. The first half of such a restatement was made by Those Whose karmic right it was to do so, in the writings of H. P. Blavatsky, which consist chiefly of "The Secret Doctrine" (published in 1888), "Isis Unveiled," and "The Key to Theosophy." This part of the work was put forth directly by Mahatmas Morya and Koot Hoomi in the latter part of the nineteenth century, working in the century cycle. The cycle ending in 1900 A. D. was not an ordinary century cycle, for no "Secret Doctrine" or like volumes, not a movement like the theosophical was put forth in 1800 A. D. or in 1700 A. D. or in any other hundred for two thousand years. The year 1900 A. D., as well as being the close of a century cycle, was the close, approximately speaking, of a 2,000-year cycle or astrological age, the Age of Pisces, and the dawn of a new 2,000-year age, the Age of Aquarius.

Arfstarchus of Samos and Graeco-Babylonian Astronomy Huxley, George Greek, Roman and Byzantine Studies; Summer 1964; 5, 2; ProQuest pg. 123 Aristarchus of Samos and Graeco-Babylonian Astronomy George Huxley N THE HALF CENTURY following the death of Alexander the Great the I history of astronomy amongst the Greeks is dominated by Aris tarchus the Samian, who is best known for his theory of the earth's revolution about the sun. His life cannot be dated exactly, but it is clear that he was already of mature age by 280 B.C., for Ptolemy states that "the men around Aristarchus," that is to say his pupils, observed the summer solstice in that year, the 50th of the first Callippic period [Ptolemy, Almagest 3.1]. He was a pupil of Strato the Lampsacene, who succeeded Theophrastus as head of the Lyceum in ca. 288/7 B.C. [Apollodorus 244 F 40] and remained in that post for eighteen years till his death not later than 269 B.C. [Apollodorus 244 F 350]. The date of the publication of Aristarchus's heliocentric theory is not known, but the doctrine was attacked by Cleanthes the Stoic land so must have been well known by 232 B.C., when Cleanthes died; but the helio centric hypothesis may have been formulated much earlier than that. Vitruvius spoke highly of the versatility of Aristarchus in geometry, astronomy, and music [De Architectura 1.1.16], and ascribes to him the invention of two kinds of sundial-the hemispherical uKac/>T} and the disc in the plane [9.8.1].2 He perhaps made use of these improved instruments in his observations of the solstices.

  • Great Year - Wikipedia
12/2/2018 Great Year - Wikipedia Great Year The term Great Year has a variety of related meanings. It is defined by NASA as "The period of one complete cycle of the equinoxes around the ecliptic, about 25,800 years ... also known as [a] Platonic Year."[1] One complete cycle of the equinoxes here means one complete cycle of axial precession. Although Plato uses the term "perfect year" to describe the return of the celestial bodies (planets) and the diurnal rotation of the fixed stars (circle of the Same) to their original positions, there is no evidence he had any knowledge of axial precession. The cycle which Plato describes is one of planetary and astral conjunction, which can be postulated without any awareness of axial precession. In fact, Hipparchus is the first Greek credited with discovering axial precession roughly two hundred years after Plato's death (see below). Cicero followed Plato in defining the Great Y ear as a combination of solar, lunar and planetary cycles.[2] (61 XX) Nicholas Campion writes of "periods of History, analogous to the solar year, known as 'Great Y ears'".[3] Plato's description of the perfect year is found in his dialogue Timaeus And so people are all but ignorant of the fact that time really is the wanderings of these bodies, bewilderingly numerous as they are and astonishingly variegated. It is none the less possible, however, to discern that the perfect number of time brings to completion the perfect year at that moment when the relative speeds of all eight periods have been completed together and, measured by the circle of the Same that moves uniformly, have achieved their consummation."[4] The 'Great Y ear' as defined by the historian Josephus is 600 years in length.

  • The Age of Aquarius Is an Astrological Term Denoting Either the Current Or Upcoming Astrological Age, Depending on the Method of Calculation
The Age of Aquarius is an astrological term denoting either the current or upcoming astrological age, depending on the method of calculation. Astrologers maintain that an astrological age is a product of the earth's slow precessional rotation and lasts for 2,150 years, on average. In popular culture in the United States, the Age of Aquarius refers to the advent of the New Age movement in the 1960s and 1970s. There are various methods of calculating the length of an astrological age. In sun- sign astrology, the first sign is Aries, followed by Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces, whereupon the cycle returns to Aries and through the zodiacal signs again. Astrological ages, however, proceed in the opposite direction ("retrograde" in astronomy). Therefore, the Age of Aquarius follows the Age of Pisces. Mythology of the constellation Aquarius This is the eleventh zodiacal sign and one which has always been connected with water. To the Babylonians it represented an overflowing urn, and they associated this with the heavy rains which fell in their eleventh month, whilst the Egyptians saw the constellation as Hapi, the god of the Nile. Greek legend, however, tells of Ganymede, an exceptionally handsome, young prince of Troy. He was spotted by Zeus, who immediately decided that he would make a perfect cup-bearer. The story then differs - one version telling how Zeus sent his pet eagle, Aquila, to carry Ganymede to Olympus, another that it was Zeus, himself, disguised as an eagle, who swept up the youth and carried him to the home of the gods.
