The Royal Welsh Show Wales is one of the UK’s largest agricultural shows, with around 240,000 visitors each year. From 22nd-25th July Dogs Trust Wales Campaigns Team, with colleagues from the Education team, headed to Llanelwedd to run a stand at the event. The team spoke to over 4,000 people about the benefits of rehoming a dog, plus the do’s and don’ts of buying a dog, explaining what potential owners should look out for to avoid fuelling the puppy farming and smuggling trades. People were able to stick a paw print on the ‘puppy path’, sharing their advice and ideas for things potential new dog owners should do before they take the plunge. There were visits from Ministers and Assembly Members including then UK Secretary of State for Environment Michael Gove and Wales Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs Lesley Griffiths, offering an opportunity to promote Dogs Trust campaigns messages Alison Donald from the Education team, Malcolm Stagg from the Campaigns team and Bethan Richardson from the Education team at The Royal Welsh Show to key decision-makers.
