We Dress with Care ~ It Matters

When we go to church it is important to use church manners and that includes the way we dress. A modest look, one that does not call attention to ourselves, is best. For example, short shorts, tank tops, gym wear or beach clothes are a little too casual for any church service, even if everyone else has that look. Dressing with care for Mass always shows respect for the church, yourself, and for all the other people who attend. AND … our church is air conditioned for your comfort. !

A Word from the

! My Dear Family, ! ! There is a beautiful song titled “ Angels Among Us ” by Alabama. I share the lyrics of the refrain: ! ! ! Oh, I believe there are Angels Among Us, ! ! Sent down to us from somewhere up above. ! ! They come to you and me … ! ! To show us how to live ! ! To teach us how to give ! ! To guide us with a light of love. ! ! Have you ever met an angel? I have. There are many angels among us in our St. Pius X parish family. They are the unsung heroes in our midst who build up our parish communities by extraordinary service in parish ministry, parish administration or some significant volunteer role. ! ! Long time parishioner, Adeline Mifsud, is one of our angels. For over 25 years, Adeline made by hand the beautiful white garment that is placed on each child at their . Adeline purchased the fabric, cut out the pattern, sewed a magnificent lace border and embroidered a cross on each baptismal garment. And as she sewed, she prayed for each child who would receive this beautiful gift. I estimate more than 1,500 children received this most precious gift hand made by an angel named Adeline. While Adeline at the grand age of 91 no longer makes the baptismal garments by hand, she continues to pray for each child whose life she touched. The St. Pius X parish family wishes to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to Adeline Mifsud for her many years of dedication to the Baptism Ministry. We recognize the wonderful work Adeline has done and give thanks for the countless young families she has unknowingly touched by sharing her talent. ! ! Many may not realize there is a very strong connection baptism and the funeral Mass. At the beginning of the funeral Mass the casket N or cremains N is covered with a white linen, known as the pall ( pall means “rich cloth” or “cloak”) which evokes the white baptismal gown. The casket is also blessed with holy water, another reminder of the person’s baptism, the day they were first given the promise of eternal life. The funeral liturgy in a church setting is a final opportunity to commend the deceased to God’s mercy, and to reflect on how the person’s life mirrored the love and teachings of Jesus Christ, who promises that one day, we will rise again and live with him in the forever. ! ! Yes, there are angels among us and I bet if you take the time to slow down and reflect, you might find they are closer to you than you think. ! ! God Bless You, ! Fr. Valentine
