Experienced coach Grant Lee went close to snatching a draw against Sydney FC despite being 3-1 down. Lee said post match he was proud of the heart shown by his players and believes this is what can lead them to a strong second half of the season. This week they face another team languishing towards the bottom half of the Table in Parramatta FC. Franco Cosentino’s side have experienced many of the same struggles Sutherland have faced this season and will be as desperate for the three points on offer. Tomohiro Kajiyama will be one of the key pieces for Sutherland with the dynamic midfielder a constant box to box presence. A free-flowing display of attacking football helped the young Sky Blues to victory, with goals to Charles Lokolingoy, Brendan Curtis and Juan Zapata helping the home side to three competition points. Sutherland Sharks didn’t have the same control of the match as their opponents but their ability to punish Sydney FC’s mistakes kept them in the match right until the final moments, thanks to goals from Tomohiro Kajiyama and Nathan Elasi. The result is sure to please Sydney FC coach Robbie Stanton as his side begins to find their groove at senior level. Parramatta FC 0 - Hakoah Sydney City East 3 at Melita Stadium A brace from Oliver Green led Hakoah Sydney City East to a comfortable 3-0 PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s victory over ten-man Parramatta in a scrappy round nine affair at Melita Stadium. The Hakoah midfielder struck early on after sweeping home from close range and added a stunning third for his side late on with a sweetly struck effort from outside the box. Minutes earlier Robert Ezequiel had made it 2-0 after racing on to a clever flick from Andre De Jong before steering the ball past Parramatta gloveman Ryan Norval. The Eagles had their luckless showing compounded by the send-off of defender Tomislav Mijic, who saw red after a melee between both sides. Identify the mood or temperature of the game and use this awareness to ensure an adjustment in pace and/or increased involvement to prevent problems. “Tempo” is the key word here again. Games can go in cycles, where the tempo increases or decreases at different times in the game. As the referee seeking to maintain match control an approach which varies with the tempo of the game usually helps – for instance when the tempo is high, then being pickier over free kicks to slow the game down, playing less advantage and increasing communication with players usually helps. A low tempo game, where the players are looking to get on with playing football (fairly) allows the referee to take a more relaxed approach, allow trivial offences to go unpunished and play more advantage. Much like the unseemly scramble for coveted spots at overpriced private schools, football academies in Sydney vie for the affluent and deluded dollar, fluttering their eyelashes and promising all kinds of untold riches, virtually mapping out the yellow brick road to soccer related success. All of which of course is complete and utter bollocks. Unlike elsewhere in the world the word ‘Academy’ means nothing here: it's a marketing label, with connotations that suggest elitism (true in the dollar sense, but nothing else), conjuring up images of well drilled kids starting off on the road to professional footballing careers.
