THE EURO CUP RACE SERIES 2019

What is EDBF EURO CUP ? A series of primarily festival races held in European Cities, to which EDBF Members’ crews are invited to compete. 2019 sees the trial re-launch of the Euro Cup Races which were first held in the early 2000s but this time with a difference !. The new Euro Cup is designed to encourage Sport Racers to go to Dragon Boat Festivals and race for points and medals, whilst also scoring Euro Cup Points for their Country.

The Format. The Euro Cup format is not restricted to the Standard Boat but racing the Standard Boat gains the most points, that is, Premier Standard Boat Races score 100 race place points and downwards, according to the number of crews in a competition class and a crews final position in that competition class – Prem Open, Women and Mixed 200m, 500m, whilst the Small Boat competitions score 50 points.

If the number of Premier Crews entered and the number of Countries they represent is low, then Junior Crews and Senior Crews may also be included in the event and count towards the Euro Cup points score for their Country. In addition to a crew’s race place points, the points system also gives bonus points based on the total number of

participating EDBF Member Countries.

The actual Euro Cup Points given, therefore, is a combination of place points and EDBF Member’s bonus points, which are allocated to the EDBF Members and not their competing crews. The number of EDBF Member crews, per competition class, that can score points is limited, as is the number of place points scoring ‘Home Crews’ so as not to advantage hosting Nations. Medals are awarded for each event.

EURO CUP Points Calculation Format ; Place Points = Std Bt Euro crews, the first placed crew gets a race points total of 100 (100%) but for the Small Boat the race points score is halved to 50 (50%). For example 500m Prem Opn Stand Boat, 10 crews competing, 1 st place get 100 nd th th st points, 2 place Std Boat 90, third 80 and 4 70 down to 10 for 10 place In the 200m Prem Opn Sml Bt, 1 place gets 50 and then decreasing by 4 points, so 2 nd place 46 points and then down to 02 points for the 13 th placed crew. Bonus Points = Number of crews + number of Nations in competition. 500m Prem Opn Std Boat is 10 from 6 Nations = 16. In the 200m Prem Open Small Boat with 13 crews is reduced by 50% for Bonus points to 6 crews, with 10 Nations competing, gives each crew 16 bonus points to add to their Place Points. Competition Class Total = Place Points + Bonus Points. Prem Std Bt is 100 Race Points, plus 16 Bonus points for a max points total of 116 for 1 st placed Prem Crew down to 26 points for the 10 th placed crew. The Sml Bt is 50 Race Points, plus 16 Bonus Points, for a max points total of 66 to 1 st placed crew down to 18 points for the 13 th placed crew. Euro Cup Points. The points total from the top scoring crew from each EDBF Member, in each competition class, counts as the Euro Cup points for that EDBF Member. The sum of points from all competition classes entered by a,Nation, is the Euro Cup total points for that particular event.

Euro Cup Points Scoring Example. In this example, as there are 2 Countries with more than 2 crews competing in a competition class, then the other crews from the Countries with more than 2 crews per competition class, will score the lowest points. The top scoring crew only, per Country in each competition class earns the Euro Cup Points.

The is competing in the Standard Boat with two crews, with 4 Crews and with 6 crews. There are 12 crews and 3 Nations in the Prem Open 200m and 500m. Place points for each competition class are therefore 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 25, 20 15, 10. Bonus points are 12 + 3 = 15 to add to the Place Points.

Total Competition Points: 1 st 115, 2 nd 105, 3 rd 95 4 th 85, 5th 75, 6th 65, 7th 55, 8 th 45, 9 th 40, 10 th 35, 11 th 30, 12 th 25.

Euro Cup Points: Spain, 115 + 95 = 180. Italy, 95 + 115 = 210. Czech Rep, 105 + 105 = 210.

EURO CUP RACE 2 - SEVILLE, RESULTS AND POINTS TABLES in conjuction with the 18 th EDBF European Club Crew Championships –25-28 July 2019

Seville hosted the 2nd Euro Cup Race, as part of the 18 th EDBF European Club Crew Championships, organised by the Spanish Dragon Boat Federation. Sixty-Seven (67) Club Crews took part in the Euro Cup Races, racing in Standard and Small Boats. Fifteen EDBF Member Countries took part (see Racing Points Table), The weather was very warm and sunny throughout the event and so was the atmosphere, with some great racing enjoyed by all !!
