There are many schools of thought and some include pedals, no pedals, buzzing, no buzzing, and lots of other variables. There is 1 thing that all schools of thought include. That 1 thing is the topic of this article. The only ingredient in every system is actually trying to play high notes. All of the other things are preparations, warmups, warmdowns, flexibility, relaxation... these are important but the KEY is trying to play the high notes. See if you diligently did all of the other things but NEVER tried to play a high note; then your range would never improve. Sometimes we focus too much on the extras and leave out the essentials. OK so HOW do you try to play the high notes? You do everything up high that you did down low. You do scales, arpeggios, slurs, intervals, tonguing, melodies. You just move things up ½ a step, or a step above what is normal for you. When that feels good then you play everything up another ½ a step or step. This builds a solid and dependable range. In the past people had to transpose music to do this. I went ahead and transposed 954 pages of music for you. This thesis explores how Jazz developed in Israel and the role education played. Jazz Education in Israel discusses the origin of educational programs such as the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music (1985) and the New School Jazz Program (1986). One question that was imperative to this study was attempting to discover exactly how Jazz became a cultural import and export within Israel. Through interviews included in this thesis, this study uncovers just that. The interviews include figures such as Tal Ronen, Dr. Arnon Palty, Dr. Alona Sagee, and Keren Yair Dagan. As technology gets more advanced and the world gets smaller, Jazz finds itself playing a larger role in humanity as a whole. iii Preface The idea for this thesis came to me when I was traveling abroad during the summer of 2015. I was enjoying sightseeing throughout the streets of Ben Yehuda Jerusalem contemplating topics when all of a sudden I came across a jam session. I went over to listen to the music and was extremely surprised to find musicians from all parts of Europe coming together in a small Jazz venue in Israel playing bebop standards at break-neck speeds.

Following four years as a bandsman in the U.S. Navy, Bill spent 15 years as a session player in the Hollywood studios. In 1984 he re-located to New York City, firmly establishing himself as an in-demand sideman and leader of his own ensembles. He has worked with jazz legends Benny Golson, Shelly Manne, Red Mitchell, Gerry Mulligan, Bud Shank, Frank Sinatra, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Sarah Vaughan, and Phil Woods. His many recordings as a leader (solo, duo, trio and sextet) are well-documented on the Chiaroscuro, Concord, DMP, Palmetto, and Steeplechase record labels. A prolific composer and arranger, Mays has written many extended suites for bass, flute, woodwind septet, and pieces for big band and orchestra (New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, Turtle Creek Chorale, WDR Big Band, U.S. Air Force Airmen Of Note).
