FROM THE EDITOR Available online at www.northwold.net Working from Home and enjoying a stay-at-home ‘staycation’ is still the safest choice in my opinion, despite all the ‘packed like sardines’ beachgoers in the South. Luckily, for the most part, we have continued to be blessed with some gorgeous weather in our idyllic rural environment of West . Although, at last, we have had rain to replenish our parched gardens and now also have restored water pressure! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Village Life is continuing to only be available in digital format instead of a printed publication. This may mean that a number of people without internet access will not be able to read it. Should you be aware of a neighbour in this position, please consider printing it for them, although this may cause hygiene issues and the risk of spreading the virus on the printed paper once handled. Please take all practicable precautions. Thank you. Stay Safe. Jonathan

**STAY ALERT** We can all help control the virus if we all stay alert. This means you must:  Stay at home as much as possible  Work from home if you can  Limit contact with other people  Keep your distance if you go out, 2 m apart where possible  Wash your hands regularly  Do not leave home if you or anyone in your household has symptoms. Downham Market Message from your Engagement Officer I am PC Lee Anderton and I work as the Engagement Officer for West Norfolk. My responsibilities include working alongside and promoting the Special Constabulary, Police Support Volunteers, Neighbourhood Watch and Community Speedwatch. If you are interested in volunteering for any of these roles please e-mail me at [email protected]. 4 weeks into the lockdown due to COVID-19 (Apr 20) and largely from a policing prospective the majority of people are playing by the rules. The Constabulary is continuing to work with those people who breach the rules by way of engaging and explaining, we will use tickets or report to court anyone who continuously break rules after being warned. It is pleasing to say, for the majority, this approach is working. During this time the Constabulary is continuing to delivery day to day policing and officers are still responding to calls as they come in. We are still encouraging everyone to use the same methods of contacting us, 999 for an emergency i.e. a crime in progress, 101 or via our website contact us to report a crime that has happened. Officers are practising social distancing at all police premises but sometimes due to the nature of our work we will have to work close to together for example arresting a violent offender. During this period of time we are concerned that Domestic Violence could increase and we would like to reassure people that we are still here and will help, so please if you are aware of anyone who is living in fear of domestic violence get in touch with us . I would also like to remind people that although we are spending most of our time at home please don’t stop carrying out the #9pm Routine as the simple steps in the routine will help prevent you from becoming a victim of crime. Unfortunately we have also seen an increase in scams and especially COVID- 19 scams and I would encourage everyone to register with Norfolk County Council Trading Standards at the following link https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/business/trading-standards/ scams/consumer-alerts to get a weekly update with the latest scams. Finally if there are any questions or anything I can assist you with please do not hesitate to get in touch and I look forward to the time when we can all start to meet face PC Aaron Jones — Spellowfields, Clenchwarton, Wapole, Walton, St to face again, until then stay save. #StayHomeSaveLives Lawrence, Mershe Lande and Wiggenhall. #ProtectTheNHS Email [email protected]
