FLAMES LAST GAME HIGHLIGHTS DECEMBER 6, 2016: CALGARY FLAMES 2 at DALLAS STARS 1 After a three-game sweep of their home stand, Calgary headed to Dallas for the first of two straight road tilts on Tuesday night. The visitors allowed the first goal for just the third time in their last nine games as the Stars owned a 1-0 advantage at the first intermission. The Flames responded in the second as Johnny Gaudreau tallied his second goal in as many games to send the game to the third tied at one. Midway through the third frame, Sean Monahan took advantage of a Calgary power play to give them the lead and Chad Johnson stopped the rest of Dallas’ shots to give the Flames their fourth straight win.

TONIGHT’S STORYLINES This is the second of five matchups between Calgary and Arizona in 2016-17. The Flames won their first meeting 2-1 in overtime at the Scotiabank Saddledome on November 16th.

The Flames have an 8-8-0-1 record versus the Western Conference this season and they are 3-4-0-1 against the Pacific Division.

DECEMBER DOMINANCE: With their 2-1 win over the Stars on Tuesday, the Flames are now 3-0-0 in December and the club has had a lot of success this month over the last 20 games. Calgary now has a 16-3-1-0 record in their past twenty in the Christmas month – dropping only one decision by more than a single goal.

MAN OF THE MONTH: Calgary’s success in December over the last couple of years has been reflected in the impressive stats of forward Johnny Gaudreau. The 23-year-old is playing in his third December in the NHL and so far in his career, he has played 29 games in this month and recorded 22 goals and 13 assists for 35 points, while earning a +13 rating. The Flames have won 17 of those December games with Gaudreau in the lineup and he scored the game winner in four of those, assisted on it in five others and had the deciding goal in the one shootout win. The NHL has recognized Johnny as well, awarding him the ‘First Star’ for December 2015 and the Rookie of the Month for December 2014.

WE’RE GOING STREAKING: The Flames stretched their winning streak to four and their point streak to five with Tuesday’s 2-1 win in Dallas – it was also their eighth victory away from home, becoming just the third team in the NHL to eight road wins in 2016-17. Calgary improves to 9-3-1 in their last 13 games, outscoring the opposition 34-24, while their power play is operating at a 19.4% clip (seven goals on 36 opportunities) and their penalty kill is 86.0% (37 kills on 43 opportunities).

GOING ABOUT HIS BUSINESS: Flames goaltender Chad Johnson has started 11 of the club’s last 13 games and he has posted a stellar 9-2-0 record over that span, including a trio of shutouts, with a .946 SV% and a 1.63 GAA. Among qualified NHL goalies in 2016-17, Johnson now shares second in shutouts (3), sixth in save percentage (.931) and eighth in GAA (2.04).
