WORLD TITLE DOUBLE-HEADER TOPS MONT-CARLO SHOWDOWN Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and the Casino de Monte-Carlo are delighted to confirm further details of The Monte-Carlo Showdown – an unmissable evening of World Championship boxing taking place in the stunning and unique Monaco setting on Saturday November 30, shown live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US. At the top of the card, undefeated Russian contenders Alexander Besputin (13-0, 9 KOs) and Radzhab Butaev (12-0, 9 KOs) collide for the vacant WBA Welterweight World title in what is a big step up for both men. Besputin, stablemate of three-division World Champion and pound-for-pound star Vasiliy Lomachenko, was an elite amateur at international level before turning pro in 2015 and earning his No.1 ranking with the WBA by racking up 12 straight wins. Butaev, ranked No.2 at 147lbs by the WBA, shares an almost identical record as his compatriot and ‘The Python’, also based in the USA, will be aiming to take home the bragging rights as well as his first World title in what is set to be a barn burner. “This is a long time coming for me,” said Besputin. “I know I belong with the best Welterweights, and November 30 is my opportunity to prove that. I've prepared for this fight my entire boxing life. I had over 300 fights as an amateur and fought the best fighters the world had to offer. I am used to traveling to fight the best, and I look forward to impressing the fans in Monaco." “I am excited and honoured to be fighting for a World title,” said Butaev.

  • Current WBC International Champions up to November 16 2020
Current WBC International champions up to November 16th 2020 Monday In difficult times we have to grit our teeth until the bad moment is over. We had a sensational WBC virtual Convention and Lic. Mauricio Sulaiman Saldivar was confirmed as WBC President for the next 4-year term. A guarantee for the entire global boxing movement, indeed. Before the outbreak of covid-19, the Committee had promoted several championships in only two months, with eighteen more title bouts already regularly sanctioned and scheduled to happen between March, April and May. The virus has been biking many parts of the world and all activities have been serioulsy jeopardized, not only boxing. After the lockdown (still in place in several countries) we have managed to come back with a good activity: The Middleweight Championship A successful defence of Uruzquieta (135 Silver) New champion in Nicaragua (118 Silver) Two very successful Championships in Tijuana (2) The new SuperLightweight champion (Ohara Davies) A great Championship in Dubai with new champ Maxi Hughes The new WBC International 168lbs Silver champion (Petro Ivanov) The new WBC International Welterweight champion (Rashidi Ellis) The new WBC International SuperWelter champion (Tursynbay Kulakhmet) More title bouts on the line as reported below Mauro BETTI WBC Vice President Roma, Italy +39 331 2874411 Latest news: The (WBC International Super Bantamweight) and the (WBC International Silver Featherweight) Championships have had to be postponed due to positive Covid tests from members of two of the boxers

  • Zhang Promises to Return with a Bang
ZHANG PROMISES TO RETURN WITH A BANG Chinese Heavyweight star Zhilei Zhang has promised to return from his 14 month absence from the ring with a “bang” when he takes on Andriy Rudenko in a ten round contest at the Casino de Monte-Carlo on Saturday November 30, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US. ‘Big Bang’ had been previously touted to fight in Monaco but a visa issue prevented him from tackling Alexander Ustinov here in November last year. American Michael Hunter stepped in to replace Zhang and stopped Ustinov to announce himself on the Heavyweight scene, subsequently beating Fabio Maldonado and Sergey Kuzmin and will face former World title challenger Alexander Povetkin next weekend in Saudi Arabia on the undercard of the blockbuster rematch between Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua. This time it is Zhang that has a replacement fight to contend with. He was meant to face Kuzmin this weekend, but now meets teak tough Ukrainian Rudenko (32-6, 20 KOs). The 36-year-old has taken big punchers like Povetkin, Agit Kabayel, Hughie Fury and Lucas Browne the distance – but Zhang is not worried about the change of opponent and is planning to return with a bang. “This is my time – I’m thrilled to be fighting in Monaco on this Matchroom Boxing card,” said Zhang. “It has always been a dream of mine to chase greatness and make the world aware that the Chinese Heavyweight is coming to do damage. I have been preparing and training hard for whoever they put in front of me.
