These women of color are leading change, fighting for equal rights and representation in the workplace and in their communities, and inspiring the next generation of change makers. MODERATOR Emiliana Guereca is an activist, feminist, entrepreneur and President of Women’s March Foundation, which she founded in 2016. She is the driving force behind 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 official Women’s Marches in Los Angeles. Emiliana devotes much of her time to advocacy programs for women’s rights, Latino education, and gender equality and has served as a bridge between community organizations and coalition building that spans national levels. Emiliana’s most recent endeavor includes launching Women’s March Action, the 501(c)4 political arm of Women’s March Foundation. Personally, Emiliana is proud to serve her Latin community and has also built roots in the Jewish community, as she raises her family in the Jewish faith. Emiliana has been awarded the National Women’s Political Caucus: Women of Courage Award 2019, the State of California: Pioneer Women of 2017 Award, the HOPE: Latina of the Year Award 2017, LA County: Pioneer Women of 2018 and the Pat Brown Institute: Civic Engagement Award 2018. Emiliana is currently working on funding a Women’s Building in the heart of Los Angeles as a women-led community space that advocates self-determination, gender equality and Emiliana Guereca social justice. President, Women’s March Foundation AUGUST 13 | VIRTUAL CONVERSATION MINORITY WOMEN LEADING THROUGH CHANGE PANELIST Elizabeth Barajas-Román is the President & CEO of the Women’s Funding Network, the largest philanthropic network in the world devoted to gender equity and justice. Previously, she was CEO of the Solidago Foundation. For more than 20 years she has been a leader in progressive movements, including advocating at the national level for the health and rights of immigrant women and their families. She has also served as the CEO of the Women’s Fund of Western Massachusetts. Under her leadership, the Women’s Fund was part of several strategic initiatives that resulted in systems-level change impacting millions of women and their families. She was previously a manager at The Pew Charitable Trusts, and before that, the Director of Policy at National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health where she opened and directed the organization’s Washington, D.C. office. Elizabeth serves on the national Board of Directors for Emerge and is on the steering committee for the New England Women’s Policy Initiative. She is a member of the External Advisory Board for the University of Massachusetts-Boston Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy, and the Massachusetts Treasurer appointed Elizabeth to serve on the state’s Economic Empowerment Trust Fund Board, and the statewide Advisory Board on Elizabeth Barajas-Román Wage Equality. President and CEO, Women’s Funding Network Elizabeth is a certified Project Manager Professional (PMP), a graduate of Oberlin College, and she received her master’s degree in international policy from Harvard University. AUGUST 13 | VIRTUAL CONVERSATION MINORITY WOMEN LEADING THROUGH CHANGE PANELIST Entering her third season with the Sacramento Kings, Maritza Davis oversees the Kings Social Responsibility Department and the Sacramento Kings Foundation. Maritza Davis has built a successful career by developing and executing hundreds of event concepts and experiences that excite, entertain, and transform community. Prior to being recruited by the Kings in 2018, Davis co-founded Unseen Heroes, an award-winning Event Marketing and Production Agency. Under her direction, she has worked to create unique event experiences and retail concepts, and has built strong corporate, political, and non-profit relationships. After earning her B.A. of Communication with a Public Relations emphasis at CSU, Sacramento she started her career with Nordstrom and later joined the Hillstone Restaurant Group in Management. She is a native of Sacramento and lives with her husband and three sons. Huffman is a grassroots leader at the local and national level, a manager, a consultant, a community bridge between government policy makers and the community. She was elected president of the California Hawaii NAACP in 1999 and has won 8 consecutive PANELIST elections. She is also a member of the National Board of the NAACP. She runs her own consulting firm founded in 1988, AC Public Affairs, Inc. She is a past appointee of three Democratic and Republican governors. She currently assists the Governor in a volunteer capacity in his appointment of African Americans in state government and judiciary positions. She is a member of the Advisory Board for the American University of Antigua and a founding member and President of the Board of Directors of the Center for Democratic Participation. She is a member of the California Democratic Party Executive Committee, and Co-chair of the Rules Committee; and a member of the Democratic National Committee since 1988 and a Super Delegate to the national conventions. She also served as Chair of the 2008 National Convention in Boston. Huffman formerly served as a member of the current elected Attorney General’s transition team;The State Parks and Recreation Commission; Member of the University of California President’s Council on Campus Climate, Culture, & Inclusion; The Secretary of State’s California Complete Count Committee for the 2010 Census; and Grand Marshall of the San Francisco’s Gay Pride Parade.
