Q. After the game with Dominic Thiem you wrote FastScripts by ASAP Sports your hometown, Haskovo. We know you helped your local hospital during the early part of the pandemic with buying some respirator machines. You're a good man; is being a good human being far more important than being a great champion on the tennis court? GRIGOR DIMITROV: That goes without saying. I've always believed in very different things, and for sure my mom has always said to me, I always want you to be a good person before a great champion. I've focused on that since I was a kid. It's just that. Tennis is just a temporarily -- it's not going to be our life forever. We're living our dream right now. Whatever I can do and help in different situations, different circumstances, of course I'll help. I mean, nothing is ever that good and nothing is ever that bad. I think the moment you find that balance, I think the better you can live at peace with yourself. I think in those tough times, this is very important, and you realize a lot more of your friends, family, and the significance of even your own self.

  • Edmund's Journey Started with Murray
Edmund’s Journey Started With Murray Win Kyle Edmund takes on Gael Monfils in the second round of Wimbledon on Thursday, and if tie-breaks and big moments are required, the 22-year-old British player is unlikely to blink. In December 2015, Edmund enjoyed a life-changing moment when he beat Andy Murray 10- 7 in the final of the inaugural Tie Break Tens event at the Royal Albert Hall in London. As well as sampling the feeling of beating Murray for the first time, it won Edmund the winner-take-all cheque of $250,000. A year later he finished inside the world’s Top 50. “To win that amount of money in one night was amazing - more than I had won for the whole of 2015, and for a young player like me it was brilliant because I was able to invest in my team, and in my career generally. There are a lot of expenses involved in trying to make it in tennis so winning Tie Break Tens played a part in me going from outside the world’s Top 100 to inside the Top 50 over the last 11 months.” Tie Break Tens is a new quick fire, short-format version of tennis in which only first-to-ten point tie-breaks are played. An entire event is played in a single evening. Subsequent events were played in Vienna late last year (Dominic Thiem beat Murray in the final), and in Madrid in May this year, where men’s and women’s events ran side-by-side in a spectacular night inside The Magic Box (Caja Magica).

The victor will claim his second ATP World Tour singles title of 2018. Additionally, a win for Pouille is projected to put him into the Top 10 of the ATP World Tour singles rankings for the first time in his career. • Pouille has now reached his second final in as many weeks, and, indeed, he was only a couple of games away from coming into Dubai with two titles on the season already in hand. However, Pouille fell to Karen Khachanov in the Marseille final last week, with the Russian prevailing 7-5 in the final set. The arduous final did not end well for the Frenchman, but he still came to Dubai undeterred. This week, after eliminating former Top 10 player Ernests Gulbis in the first round, Pouille exacted revenge on Khachanov in the second round with a three-set win over the Russian.

The event is the only one in the world that includes ATP Champions Tour and ATP World Tour events at the same venue in the same week. Karlovic (No. 23), Dimitrov (No. 28) and Jeremy Chardy (No. 30) give the field another three players ranked among the world's Top 30, while the 37-year-old Haas will play on a wild card following a return from the fourth major surgery of his career.
