Each professor I had the privilege of working with has always taught with a beautiful spirit of learning. I feel incredibly blessed to have strong women professors that guided me through my multiple subject teaching credential and now my master’s degree in education. I have learned life lessons from these professors as I grow and learn as a woman. Dr. Madalienne Peters has been a breath of fresh air and I am convinced that the department chair knew to save the best for last! Love, appreciation, and admiration to Cecila Perez who was my mentor teacher at Bahia Vista Elementary. Her willingness to share her classroom “secrets” and her faith that allowed me to jump in and teach her students each day, helped mold me into the teacher I am today. My father, Robert Allen Jacob, Ph.D., a research scientist, always provided an example of class and humanity. I thank my mother, Janet, who was tireless in her efforts to maintain integrity, truth and values in our home and in her real estate and teaching careers. I thank my husband, Jason, who has taught me that there is no limit to the possibilities of life if you allow yourself to dream. Above all, I thank God for leading me to Dominican University. A review of the literature reveals that low self-esteem has been linked to addictions including drinking, drug abuse, bullying, disordered eating, cutting, depression, promiscuity, and suicide.
