Chequers House Chequers House Whipsnade • Bedfordshire • Lu6 2Ll CHEQUERS HOUSE CHEQUERS HOUSE WHIPSNADE • BEDFORDSHIRE • LU6 2LL A wonderful COUNTRY HOUSE WITH approXIMATELY 5,000 SQFT OF STYLISH LIVING space AND WITH Grounds OF ABOUT 1.9 acres Stunning bespoke kitchen/breakfast room with Aga Beautiful drawing room and dining room Great basement with games room and shower room Extremely stylish interior Impressive master bedroom suite with spiral staircase down to kitchen 5 further double bedrooms and 2 bath and shower rooms Lovely mature southerly facing gardens and paddock Double garage and extensive parking Berkhamsted 10 miles (Euston from 35 minutes) Harpenden 9 miles (St Pancras International from 28 minutes) Tring Station 8.1 miles Milton Keynes 17.6 miles Luton Airport 9 miles DESCRIPTION Sitting just off the green, Chequers House commands a lovely position with views across the common and up towards the Zoo. This magnificent home was built, we understand, circa 1930 and has undergone an extensive programme of works over recent years to now offer a truly fabulous family home over 4 floors. The house is light and airy and with most of the rooms benefiting from views over the mature landscaped gardens or the common. Of particular note is the spacious triple aspect kitchen/breakfast room built and fitted by Martin Moore with a range of bespoke units, useful central island and Aga with adjoining companion. The double aspect drawing room flows through to the dining room and study beyond, whilst off the central hallway is a lovely informal snug sitting room. The master bedroom is rather special. It features a fabulous vaulted ceiling and a spiral staircase from a small galleried landing, that leads down to the kitchen/breakfast room. Other noteworthy features include the lower ground floor, which can be accessed from either an internal staircase or via a separate front door, where a boot room, shower room and a great playroom/cinema can be found. The gardens are extensive and mature, and mainly laid to lawn with well stocked herbaceous and perennial borders and a selection of trees which provide a high degree of privacy. A large sun terrace abuts the house and is ideal for al-fresco dining and entertaining. LOCAL INFORMATION Chequers House is set off the village green of Whipsnade, a small village located in South Bedfordshire on the eastern edge of the Chiltern Hills. It is predominantly known for the open spaces of Whipsnade Zoo and the nearby Tree Cathedral. The village itself is very pretty with many period houses and an old church overlooking the large village green. The surrounding countryside is simply beautifully with both Whipsnade and Dunstable Downs close by providing a popular destination for walking, cycling, horse riding and gliding. The market town of Tring offers local shopping facilities and there are more comprehensive facilities available at both Berkhamsted and Harpenden. The area is well served for good selection of both state and private schools, including the renowned private schools of Beechwood Park, The Performing Arts at Tring and Berkhamsted School for Boys & Girls. In addition, St Albans School for Boys and the High School (STAGS) can be reached by bus from the end of the road. The M1 is best accessed at J 9 and the A 41 at Tring connects to the M25 at J 20. Luton Airport is about 9 miles distant. For education, there are a variety of primary schools available at Studham, Kensworth and Dagnall. Senior schools are available at Dunstable. Private schooling available just over 3 miles away at Beechwood Park with senior schooling available at Berkhamsted Collegiate. SERVICES Mains electricity, water and drainage. LPG gas.
