Sample Playlists to get you started

Music is huge! As a former producer at MTV, I know the power of music to get people moving, but I certainly don’t play the same type of music in a traditional yoga class that I do in my XSYWW classes. However, I do follow the same format of starting off slower, then building up in the middle, then slowing it down again at the end. The first song or two starts out at about 85 BPM, the next 5-8 songs are at about 104-110 BPM, and toward the middle of the third segment, I slow it back down to 85- 95 BPM.

I tend to play mostly urban hip-hop, rap, and mash-ups of top 40 hits. You should use whatever style of music you prefer, and you’ll draw students who enjoy that. If for some reason your love of show tunes isn’t drawing in a huge crowd, then see what the students in your area like, and try to cater to them.

You’ll see that a few songs are seen on more than one playlist here, I wanted you to see how to recycle songs and use them with different genres of music in the same playlist. They all come in at around 1 hour give or take a minute. I usually don’t play music during savasana, so you don’t need a full one hour anyway.
