In 2000, the Buffs opened 0-3 with the three setbacks by a combined 10 points and would go on and finish 3-8 In 1986, Jon Embree’s senior season, after a 23-7 loss to open the year against CSU, Colorado lost its next three by a combined eight points to fall to 0-4; that team rallied to finish second in the Big 8 and play in the Bluebonnet Bowl. Two years earlier (1984), an 0-2 start came by 10 total points, the latter at Oregon 27-20 when Embree’s roommate, Ed Reinhardt, suffered a life-threatening brain injury. The 28th anniversary of that tragic day is this Saturday (Sept. 15). OBSCURE NOTE OF THE WEEK Colorado has not thrown an interception in its first two games, just the ninth time that has happened since records are available dating back to 1946; the 65 pass attempts are the fourth most thrown without a pick through two games. In 1988, CU did not suffer an interception until the fifth game of the year, and in 1975, 1998 and 2000, opponents didn’t steal a pass until the fourth game.
