Brochure: Holden VE.II Commodore and Calais Calais Sportwagon in Phantom It’s the Commodore, but not as you know it. Sure, it still has all the space. It still surrounds you with 5-star rated safety. And, of course, it still performs like a Holden should. But in the very clever Series II Commodore, that performance now comes with fuel economy better than some smaller 4-cylinder cars, plus the ability to run on emission-shrinking E85 Bio-ethanol, a blend of up to 85% ethanol and 15% petrol. With the futuristic new touch-screen Holden-iQ System onboard, it now also seamlessly integrates your digital life with your time behind the wheel. Seven Sedan models. Seven Sportwagon models. All powered by intelligent technology, and all complete with distinctive new style enhancements, inside and out. Holden Series II Commodore – the future has never looked better. Calais V-Series with Onyx leather Featuring the latest in touch-screen and Bluetooth® technology, the Commodore’s all new Holden-iQ System lets you play music from your choice of iPod®, MP3 player, USB device, CD and the vehicle’s own internal flash drive*. Access your mobile phone address book to make and take calls, hands-free without touching your phone. Operate the rear camera and satellite navigation system (including real time traffic updates), where fitted. And adjust your dual zone climate control. It’s a level of control and flexibility that turns cabin space, into personal space. And in the new Series II Commodore, it’s all at your fingertips. * Not available on Omega SS V-Series Redline in Redhot Go by the map, and that favourite place of yours can seem as far off as the horizon. Go by the new SS V-Series Redline Edition, and the journey will fly by. Such is the joy of owning and driving this top-of-the- range Commodore sports machine. The precision handling and phenomenal braking. The ease and efficiency with which its V8 takes on the road. More than ever, it gives you the power to go where you want, when you want, and never look back. Motorsport- inspired from nose to tail and complete with racing style cockpit, unique 19-inch forged alloy wheels, Brembo® performance brakes and FE3 performance suspension*, it’s a car that looks and feels as good as it sounds. * Sedan only SV6 in Alto Grey Exhilarating rear-wheel driven performance has always been the hallmark of Commodore’s sports lineup. Now it’s also got serious smarts. The 3.6 litre SIDI Direct Injection V6 delivers its 210kW to the SV6 with even more kilometres to the litre. The Gen IV V8 with Active Fuel Management (AFM) can run on Bio-ethanol, which means more power to the road than ever from the SS and SS V-Series. All of this, plus Holden’s legendary sports-tuned ride and handling, in vehicles that command attention every bit as much as they command the road. Calais V-Series Sportwagon in Phantom It’s one thing to be spacious. But it’s another altogether to be space efficient. That’s why the very clever Series II Commodore is both. Large in capacity and super practical, it’s packed with storage optimisation ideas that make it easy to load, access, re-organise and unload your belongings. Like the Sportwagon’s innovative forward-hinged tailgate, elevated rear cargo floor and flush-folding split rear seats. Room for everything – including the elbows and legs of five full- grown adults – that’s the new Series II Commodore. Calais V-Series with Light Urban leather It’s a feeling we all get from time to time. The need to put some space between yourself and the rest of the world. It’s a desire the flagship Calais V-Series interior fulfils every time you drive. More like a designer home than a cabin, its euro-inspired style combines premium finishes and sumptuous appointed leather luxury with state-of-the-art technology, to create a driving environment and experience that is simply second to none. performance The latest innovation from our Ecoline Bio-ethanol SIDI Direct Injection V6 Dual Fuel LPG V6 Generation IV Alloy V8 Transmissions range of alternative fuel and fuel-saving Bio-ethanol, also known as E85, can contain A breakthrough in V6 engine design, Optional on the Commodore Omega and Standard with SS and SS V-Series models, 6-Speed automatic with active select technologies gives the Commodore up to 85% ethanol and 15% petrol. All of its models are made by overseas com- panies owned by, or associated with, General Motors. Holden badges are glued to these cars as they leave their factories. Holden lost money for most of the last decade, but has bounced back since it stopped building cars in Aus- tralia. Chances of survival: uncertain. Holden’s owner – General Motors – lost $3.9 billion in 2017 after the sale of its loss-making European opera- tions. GM’s operations in USA and China are currently profitable, but vulnerable to economic downturn. The Holden brand will continue in Australasia as long as there is consumer demand for it, but Holden sales have been dropping for years. The Holden & Frost partnership boomed with the start of the Boer War, supplying leather equipment to the colonial soldiers. With the advent of the motorcar the Holden & Frost catalogue grew to include motoring accessories. From there, it was an easy ad- aptation to begin custom building car bodies; they knew coachwork well and had a massive industrial complex at their disposal. By 1923, demand exceeded supply.

GM Holden did not prepare for peak oil – since 1998 Part 1: The Howard years Summary Peak oil, which should be seen as a process having started in 2005 rather than an event in the year of maximum global production, hits the weakest first, those with a pre-condition of other problems. This post will show how ignoring early peak oil warnings by Irish oil geologist Colin Campbell led to mis-investments in the Australian car industry. After Mitsubishi and Ford it's now GM Holden which is closing its factory in Australia. Statistics of the Department of Industry show that sales of large cars in Australia peaked way back in 2003, the year of the Iraq war which was designed to use Iraqi's oil to push the global peak a couple of years into the future. Only months before the invasion then Prime Minister Howard joined the collation of the peaking he announced a13 year long assistance package for the Australian car industry – without introducing mandatory fuel efficiency standards for car fleets. Holden's demise was sealed in 2009 at the height of the financial crisis which was triggered by high oil prices. In that year the US government forced GM – as a condition of its bail-out - to dump the Pontiac brand, for which Holden's VE Commodore SS was planned to play a major role. Local production of the Cruze came too late. So we have peak oil ignorance being punished all the way to the very end – without any chance for a transition to e.g.

  • MY10 VE and WM PRODUCT INFORMATION 3.0L and 3.6L SIDI
September 2009 MY10 VE and WM PRODUCT INFORMATION 3.0L and 3.6L SIDI V6 Engines Overview The Global V6 engine family was launched by General Motors in 2003 to fulfil its strategy to build a new generation of engines for flexible worldwide application in premium and high- performance vehicles. Today GM Powertrain’s all-alloy 60-degree double overhead cam (DOHC) Global V6 engines power a variety of vehicles around the world. GM Holden is a producer as well as a user of Global V6 engines. In 2003 its newly commissioned $400 million Port Melbourne V6 engine plant began building Global V6 engines for export. In August 2004 Alloytec Global V6 engines were introduced to the Australian market with the Holden VZ Commodore and WL Caprice and Statesman model ranges. The latest evolution of the Global V6 is the Spark Ignition Direct Injection SIDI V6; which offers advanced direct combustion chamber fuel injection. Like its predecessor, the SIDI V6 applies highly developed engine technologies such as state-of- the-art casting processes, full four-cam phasing, ultra-fast data processing and torque-based engine management. GM Holden engineers jointly assisted in the architectural development of the SIDI V6 with colleagues from GM technical centres in North America and Germany. The 3.0L and 3.6L SIDI V6 engines introduced with the MY10 Holden Commodore, Berlina, Calais, Sportwagon, Ute, Statesman and Caprice model ranges combine with smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission and dual exhaust specified as standard*. They deliver a balance of improved operating refinement with first-rate noise and vibration control, good specific output, high torque over a broad rpm band, fuel economy and low emissions, exclusive durability-enhancing features and very low maintenance.
