Emergency Assistance to Non-public Schools (EANS) under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSA Act)

The preliminary allocation, listed below, is an estimate since final data for one of the three data sets is not yet available. The Department of Education is implementing a weighted approach using existing enrollment data, poverty data from the Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) program by the U.S. Census Bureau and impact of COVID-19 data collected from the first phase of the EANS application, the intent to apply. The weighted approach is designed to prioritize low-income students and the impact that COVID-19 has had on non-public schools. This preliminary allocation of EANS funding is provided to assist schools in making participation decisions. A decision to participate in the EANS program must be acknowledged through the application process. The preliminary allocation from non-public schools that did not apply for the EANS program will be proportionally divided among participating EANS applicants. Final allocations will be adjusted after participation decisions are finalized and impact of COVID-19 data has been received by the Maine Department of Education. Final allocations will be available by April 7, 2021 and will be incorporated into the second phase of the EANS application, the budget and project narrative.
