Dear Parent/Guardian/Adult Student:

Richmond Public Schools (“RPS”) and the Greater Richmond Transit Company (“GRTC”) have formed a partnership to provide free access to public transportation for all high school students within the school division. Students participating in the GRTC/RPS Ridership Program will be able to have free access to public transportation for travel to and from school and throughout the City of Richmond. Students will be able to use the pass to travel on routes throughout the City of Richmond year around, even during the summer months, if the pass is not suspended or revoked as set out below, and program funding is appropriated. Permission to keep the pass activated may be requested yearly. Before you/your student can participate in the GRTC/RPS Ridership Program you and/or your student are required to review and agree to the following:

▪ I understand that participation in the GRTC/RPS Ridership Program is a privilege. ▪ I understand that the bus pass is not activated unless and until this registration/consent/release form is signed. I understand that it may take up to five to seven business days to activate the bus pass and I and/or my student will be responsible for any payment needed to ride GRTC until the bus pass is activated. ▪ I understand that the bus pass provides my student with unlimited and unsupervised access to GRTC bus travel on any local City of Richmond routes established by GRTC. ▪ I, along with my student, have reviewed the rules of conduct for riding GRTC buses as a participant of the GRTC/RPS Ridership Program. ▪ I understand that my student’s ability to participate in the GRTC/RPS Ridership Program

depends on my student following the stated rules of conduct for GRTC and RPS’ Student

Code of Responsible Ethics and that the privilege to participate may be revoked at any

time by GRTC or RPS for non-compliance with applicable rules.

▪ I understand that should riding privileges under the GRTC/RPS Ridership Program be

revoked, my student may be eligible for transportation to and from school by RPS in

accordance with the school’s policies and procedures.

▪ Neither GRTC nor RPS will assume any responsibility to transport my student should

riding privileges be revoked during a ride on GRTC, but prior to reaching the intended

destination. ▪ I understand and agree that data regarding my student’s participation, to include dates and times of use, will be collected and used to evaluate the effectiveness of the GRTC/RPS Ridership Program. ▪ I understand that my student may not allow any other person to use the bus pass assigned for their use. Any violation of this statement may result in revocation of riding privileges. Lost cards must be reported immediately to my student’s assigned school.

Franklin Military Academy Staff:

I hope you have had an awesome first few days back to work. My name is Ashley White and I am the School Social Worker assigned to your school. This is my first year working with Richmond Public Schools and I am excited to be working with such a great staff and administration!

I am scheduled to be at Franklin Military Academy on Tuesdays and Thursdays however, I may be here on different days depending on my work demand and planned meetings. The nature of my job requires me to be very flexible. I am also assigned to George Mason on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for Child Find, and Fridays, so my time will be split between both schools. Below is a brief list of some of my responsibilities to Franklin Military Academy and the students we serve: • Serve as liaison between home and school; • Advocate for services for youth and their families; • Participate on School Attendance Support Team (SAST) and enforce mandatory attendance procedures by working with students and families with chronic attendance problems, which may result in legal action being taken; • Participate on the Child Study Team. • Conduct Socio-Cultural Assessments on youth who are being evaluated or re-evaluated to determine eligibility for exceptional education services; • Support teachers and parents with strategies to work with our youth. • Intervene and assist School-Based Crisis Team in responding to threats (homicide, suicide, etc.), grief & loss, etc.; • Provide staff development on various topics, when requested; and • Individual and group counseling as needed and as time permits.

**If my assistance is needed for a specific situation, please be sure to complete the attached Referral for School Social Work Services form in its entirety and place it in my mail box. Once I respond to the request, I will put a copy of the interventions/services/actions taken in your box to keep you abreast of the results. Additional copies of the referral form can be found in the teachers’ lounge. If you need to contact me immediately, please call 804-585-4111 and I will ensure to return your message.

I truly look forward to working with the Franklin Military Academy team and assisting our school in growing to new heights!

Sincerely, Ashley White

Keep your notes simple and effective.

• Stick to keywords and short sentences that are easy to jot down.

• Use a highlighter for the most important parts.

• Listen to the teacher and write their lecture in your own words instead of copying it down verbatim. • Rewriting things in your own words may help you learn, understand, and memorize the material better! • There are lots of different ways to take notes, so you may have to try several different techniques before you find one that works for you. https://www.wikihow.com/Be-Organized-in-School

RICHMOND PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Attendance is Everyone’s Responsibility

This communication outlines critical procedures for recording attendance the first week of school and during the school year. It is essential that all school based stakeholders work to ensure we maintain accurate student enrollment and attendance records. As articulated, attendance is everyone’s responsibility! Thank you in advance for sharing the information outlined below with your entire staff.

Recording Attendance

Teachers are required to start recording student attendance beginning on Tuesday, September 3rd (the first day of school).

High School

Teachers should take and record attendance within the first ten minutes of each class. If a student arrives to class after attendance is taken but within the first twenty minutes of the class, the teacher should change the absence to a tardy. If a student is more than 20 minutes late to a class or leaves the class more than 20 before class dismissal, the student should be marked absent unless the student has written notification from another adult in the building excusing the missed class time. It is expected that teachers follow this procedure and take attendance at every single period they have a class.

Special note: This year we will set ASPEN to pull attendance near the end of the first/second period.

Finally, if the person recording attendance doesn’t have access to ASPEN e.g., a substitute teacher, administration should ensure that the designated office staff updates attendance on ASPEN prior to the end of the school day. Failing to do so could significantly impact the accuracy of the daily attendance record.

Elementary and Middle School

Teachers should take and record attendance within the first twenty minutes of the official start of the school day. If a student arrives to school after attendance is taken but within the first one hour and twenty minutes of school, the teacher should change the absence to a tardy. If a student is more than one hour twenty minutes late, the student should be marked absent.

Finally, if the person recording attendance doesn’t have access to ASPEN e.g., a substitute teacher, administration should ensure that the designated office staff updates attendance on ASPEN prior to the end of the school day. Failing to do so could significantly impact the accuracy of the daily attendance record. MAKE A POSITIVE/HONEST CALL TO PARENTS IN THE FIRST MONTH

Business Rules and Notes • Interim Progress Reports are set to the end of the fifth week of a nine-week marking period; typically, these have been required for every marking period. This year, we are proposing a shift to make them optional for schools based on school leader and principal director conversations. Those initial opt-out decisions will be recorded via this survey. • Marking Period Open in Aspen dates are set to roughly one week prior to the end of the nine-week period. • Marking Period Close in Aspen dates are set to two business days after the end of the nine-week period. • Report Card dates are set to roughly one week from the end of the nine-week period. • For Secondary schools, ICTS must run the Quarterly GPA process in order for Honor and Scholar Roll to show on the Report Cards (these things are based on GPA). • For Elementary and Secondary ICTS receives requests from the delegates to send in the students who qualify for Honor and Scholar Roll and this isn't accurate until all grades are entered.
