Bill Mass Bill Maas joined Block & Company in July 2010. Prior to starting a career in real estate he was an All-Pro Defensive Lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs for 10 seasons. Maas played both defensive and tackle during his career. Recognized for his relentless pass rushing ability, the two-time Pro Bowl selection joined the Chiefs as the team's number one pick in 1984 and made an immediate impact. Maas started 14 games, registered five sacks, and earned the associated press NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Maas enjoyed his finest season in 1988 when he ranked third or higher in every defensive category and earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl. He also played a major role on the Chiefs record-breaking special teams unit by blocking two field goals, one of which was returned for a touchdown to bolster the Kansas City Playoff Drive. In 1987, Maas once again represented the AFC as the starting nose tackle in the Pro Bowl after a season in which he finished second on the team with six sacks and scored his first NFL touchdown after recovering a fumble. Bill spent twelve seasons broadcasting the NFL through Fox Sports, where he enjoyed many opportunities including relocating to Frankfurt, Germany, and hosting camps for kids of all ages to help increase the sport's popularity, and aided efforts to globalize the NFL product. In the United States, Bill broadcasted NFL games each Sunday, and covered five Super Bowls, two of which were reported from the sidelines for John Madden.

  • Marshall Goldberg
Professional Football Researchers Association www.profootballresearchers.com Marshall Goldberg This article was written by Matt Keddie. Marshall Goldberg was always a big dreamer. It was not ironic during his playing days that he earned the nickname, “Biggie”.1 No matter the sport he played or the team he played on, Marshall fit right in with his natural athletic ability. He ascended through the football ranks to star with the NFL's Chicago Cardinals as a fabulous two-way player in the 1940s. His eight year NFL career from 1939 to 1948 was briefly interrupted by a short stint due to service in the US Navy (1944, 1945). During his career, he was arguably the Cardinals' best player, and a top back during the war time era. Marshall was born to Sol Goldberg and Rebecca Fram in Elkins, West Virginia on October 24, 1917. Both immigrants, his parents worked as entrepreneurs in the clothing business.23 They worked hard for what they had, and saved all they could. As a result, Marshall's home life was very blue-collar. He learned the values of working for everything – the food he ate, the clothes on his back, and the success he would achieve in life. Among his interests growing up: competitive sports. He stood roughly 5'11” and 190 pounds, an athletic build that allowed him to star at Elkins High School on the football, track, and basketball teams. Goldberg was not only the team captain, but he was also an All-State performer in his senior year.4 Marshall's astounding success drew the interest of major college football powerhouses from across the country.

20 STATE OF DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH19 TABLE OF CONTENTS For the past eight years, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership has been pleased to produce the State of Downtown Pittsburgh Report. This annual compilation and data analysis allows us to benchmark our progress, both year over year and in comparison to peer cities. In this year’s report, several significant trends came to light helping us identify unmet needs and better understand opportunities for developing programs and initiatives in direct response to those challenges. Although improvements to the built environment are evident in nearly every corridor of the Golden Triangle, significant resources are also being channeled into office property interiors to meet the demands of 21st century companies and attract a talented workforce to Pittsburgh’s urban core. More than $300M has been invested in Downtown’s commercial office stock over the 4 ACCOLADES AND BY THE NUMBERS last five years – a successful strategy drawing new tenants to Downtown and ensuring that our iconic buildings will continue to accommodate expanding businesses and emerging start-ups. OFFICE, EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION Downtown experienced a 31% growth in residential population over the last ten years, a trend that will continue with the opening 6 of hundreds of new units over the next couple of years. Businesses, from small boutiques to Fortune 500 companies, continued to invest in the Golden Triangle in 2018 while Downtown welcomed a record number of visitors and new residents. HOUSING AND POPULATION 12 Development in Downtown is evolving and all of these investments combine to drive the economic vitality of the city, making Downtown’s thriving renaissance even more robust.

  • The Pittsburgh I Remember Is a City That Will Use This Act of Hate to Build a Place of Love and Hope
THE PITTSBURGH I REMEMBER IS A CITY THAT WILL USE THIS ACT OF HATE TO BUILD A PLACE OF LOVE AND HOPE By Ron Sirak • @ronsirak October 28, 2018 I remember the old Pittsburgh, the grimy city of steel mills and pollution, a lunch pail-carrying kind of place where the sweat of the blast furnaces was washed away with a shot and a beer. I remember a fiercely proud area that viewed Eastern Pennsylvania as another state, perhaps even another country. Pittsburgh, Western Pennsylvania, even has its own language. Phrases such as: “What yinz doin’ after you red up the house?” clang on the outsider’s ear like the wail of a car alarm at 3 in the morning. My mother, who worked as a welder from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and then as a cleaning woman in an office from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., said of Eastern Pa.: “They’re from the anthracite region; we’re from the bituminous region,” as if that was a stamp you’d get on your passport. My father drove a ladle crane in about every mill in Western Pa. and Eastern Ohio as the steel industry was dying. United Engineering. Mesta Machine. Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Sharon Steel, Jones & Laughlin and finally Pennsylvania Engineering in our hometown of New Castle, 50 miles from Pittsburgh.
