For more information, please visit: www.MarcusCenter.org or www.ColinQuinnUnconstitutional.com COLIN QUINN (Writer/Performer) A native of Brooklyn, Colin Quinn began his stand-up career in New York as a regular on the comedy club circuit. He made his television debut as co-host of MTV's popular game show Remote Control. In 1995, Quinn landed a spot on the legendary late-night show Saturday Night Live, where he entertained audiences for five seasons. After SNL, Quinn tackled societal issues on Comedy Central’s Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn, in which he served as the show’s host, creator and executive producer, from 2002 - 2004. In addition to his television work, Colin has appeared in many films, including A Night at the Roxbury, Comedian, and Adam Sandler's Grown Ups. Colin’s first one-man show, Sanctifying Grace, began off-Broadway in 1994 and was later produced as Colin Quinn—An Irish Wake and played at the Helen Hayes Theatre. In 2010, he returned to the Helen Hayes Theatre and starred in the hit Broadway show Colin Quinn Long Story Short. Directed by Jerry Seinfeld, the show was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and was nominated for an Emmy as a HBO special in 2011. RACIAL SATIRE AND CHAPPELLE’S SHOW by KATHARINE P. ZAKOS Under the Direction of Mary Stuckey ABSTRACT This thesis examines Chappelle's Show’s use of racial satire to challenge dominant stereotypes and the effectiveness of that satire as a tool to achieve perspective by incongruity. I use a variation of D’Acci’s circuit of media study model to examine the institutional challenges and limitations on the show due to the context in which it was created, produced, and distributed; to interrogate the strategies employed by the show’s writers/creators to overcome these challenges through the performance of race; and to analyze the audience’s understanding of the use of racial satire through a reception study of the show’s audience. I argue that using satire often has the unintended consequence of crossing the line between “sending up” a behavior and supporting it, essentially becoming that which it is trying to discount, though this is not to say that its intrinsic value is therefore completely negated.

(Photo by Al Pereira/WireImage) "Hal Wilner passed away the other day. He got the coronavirus and died from complications like thousands and thousands of others tragically have in these past months. I was lucky enough to know Hal Willner from 'Saturday Night Live,' where he was the music supervisor, and from the many movies I did with him through the years like 'Anchorman,' 'Step Brothers,' 'Vice' and a dozen short films. Hal was a creative force, producing records for the likes of Lou Reed, Lucinda Williams, William S Burroughs, Laurie Anderson and working with filmmakers like Robert Altman, Gus Van Zant and Wim Wenders. But what Hal really meant to the creative community is hard to put into a resume or bio.
