The shows scheduled for 2019 extend Seinfeld’s overwhelmingly successful residency at The Beacon, which began in January 2016 and concluded in December 2017 with 36 sold-out performances. The 2019 dates are as follows: January 11, February 8, March 14, March 15, April 4, April 5, May 3, May 4, June 6 and June 7, with performances at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on all ten nights. In 2014, The Madison Square Garden Company originated the concept of a music franchise outside of Las Vegas, with the ongoing monthly Billy Joel shows at The Garden – now at a history-making 56 performances. Entertainment icon Jerry Seinfeld’s comedy career took off after his first appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1981. Eight years later, he teamed up with fellow comedian Larry David to create what was to become the most successful comedy series in the history of television: “Seinfeld.” The show ran on NBC for nine seasons, winning numerous Emmy, Golden Globe and People’s Choice awards, and was named the greatest television show of all time in 2009 by TV Guide, and in 2012 was identified as the best sitcom ever in a 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll. Seinfeld has also starred in, written and produced movies (“Comedian,” “Bee Movie”), directed and produced a Broadway hit (“Colin Quinn Long Story Short”), and even wrote a best-selling book (“Seinlanguage”) and a children’s book (“Halloween”). Seinfeld directed the off-Broadway production of “Colin Quinn: The New York Story” and the Netflix stand-up special. RACIAL SATIRE AND CHAPPELLE’S SHOW by KATHARINE P. ZAKOS Under the Direction of Mary Stuckey ABSTRACT This thesis examines Chappelle's Show’s use of racial satire to challenge dominant stereotypes and the effectiveness of that satire as a tool to achieve perspective by incongruity. I use a variation of D’Acci’s circuit of media study model to examine the institutional challenges and limitations on the show due to the context in which it was created, produced, and distributed; to interrogate the strategies employed by the show’s writers/creators to overcome these challenges through the performance of race; and to analyze the audience’s understanding of the use of racial satire through a reception study of the show’s audience. I argue that using satire often has the unintended consequence of crossing the line between “sending up” a behavior and supporting it, essentially becoming that which it is trying to discount, though this is not to say that its intrinsic value is therefore completely negated.

I was lucky enough to know Hal Willner from 'Saturday Night Live,' where he was the music supervisor, and from the many movies I did with him through the years like 'Anchorman,' 'Step Brothers,' 'Vice' and a dozen short films. Hal was a creative force, producing records for the likes of Lou Reed, Lucinda Williams, William S Burroughs, Laurie Anderson and working with filmmakers like Robert Altman, Gus Van Zant and Wim Wenders. But what Hal really meant to the creative community is hard to put into a resume or bio.
