Mesa Verde High School Booster Club (MVHSBC) Mesa Verde High School Booster Club (MVHSBC) Meeting of the MVHSBC Boards of Directors, Parents and Staff Mesa Verde High School Library 08/24/2016 (A-DM620041) Minutes Board members in attendance: Coventry St. Mary, Gale Morris, Jacque Wooten & David Rillera Board members absent: none Others in attendance: Colin Bross, David Fraga, Lindsay Adkins, Shannon Pierce, Julie Casillas, Leonard Casillas, Mike Bradley, Nes Pena, Veronica Rillera, Augustine Sanchez, Mark Toscano, Margarita Ramirez, Kevin Anderson, Renee Sotelo-Barlese, Manny Galvan, John Hilton, Matthew Kilwine, Christin Bear, Mark Goldston, Travis Miller, Roxanne Dobler, Warner Barlese 1. Meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by President Coventry St. Mary Introductions- present members Minutes from 05/2016, were passed by Julie Casillas & 2nd by Nes Pena. Old Business: Weight room for P.E. classes and athletics. MVHS board adopted the weight room as their signature project and donated $25k, to MVHS. New Business: A. TD Club (touchdown club) Lenny Casillas spoke on behalf of TD club, their goal to raise money for a tunnel for home games. Quotes (3) were provided for the tunnel. The TD club requested a loan of approximately $2.5k from boosters for the tunnel. The loan would be repaid through various fundraisers performed by the TD club, including the “Go Fund” account which has approximately $600.00. Varsity coaching staff will be responsible for the setting up and safe keeping of the tunnel. The goal will be to pass on to a parent(s). Motion made by Nes Pena for loan of $2,500.00, to be repaid over 1-2 years. Motion was 2nd by Roxanne Dobler, motion to be voted on at next months (September) booster club meeting. Booster club transferred to football TD club $500.00, as part of the initial down payment. B. Wrestling coach, Sanchez was requesting assistance for the wrestling coaches to attend a clinic; Mr. Bross will take from tournament fund. Discussion ensued regarding lady singlet’s to be purchased. Once it becomes an official sport discussion regarding purchase of singlet’s will resume. C. Ms. Pierce requested a donation for additional P.E. equipment (punching bags); she is to email Coventry St. Mary with her request. D. Coach Miller (baseball) received an invoice from AU (Athletics Unlimited), the invoice was incurred by previous baseball coach. Mark G. will walk him through the process. Coach Miller has reserved Raley field for the Mesa baseball team to play at Raley field against another high school (TBD). Coach Miller would like to be on next month’s agenda for new uniforms. **Peaches reminded all the staff/coaches that Julie Paxio sends out an email to all staff. It was emphasized that if they would like to be put on the agenda they should notify Julie Paxio. Coaches will need to be sure that Julie Paxio has their email address for notification. Julie will then forward to Coventry St. Mary to add them to the agenda as needed. If not on the agenda their request will be pushed out to the following month** 1 President’s report- The “Go Fund me” accounts if you want the GFM account to go through boosters you will need to contact Jacque Wooten or Coventry St. Mary for instructions. PLEASE CONTACT THEM BEFORE YOU SET UP GFM account. Looking for a couple of positions for hospitality this person would help with back to school night, proms, birthdays etc. basically any school function that Mr. Bross would like to engage booster club assistance. We are also looking for a 2nd person to help sell and support our merchandise items. 2 Principal’s report- Just hired full time social worker and a six hour intervention assistant to work with the social worker. Tori will also be assisting with this positon and the family help center. MVHS is one of the first schools to have engaged in the “wrap around” services in the district and very excited about the program. Intervention team meets every Monday to discuss how to support students and or discuss the follow up on students currently being helped. Coaches if you are approached or see a student that may look or is acting disshulved not showing up to practice you can speak to Intervention team. Coaches are mandated reporters regarding students although may not be CPS route it could be mentioned to the Intervention team. 3 Travis Miller is a new teacher from EC and is teaching Social Science and coaching baseball program. New English teacher Angela Ripley to replace Brett Tujague who is now the new VP, Julie Penunuri to replace Mandy Brown who went to Sylvan, and Julie will be soccer coach. New counselor, Francisco Perez is from San Jose and also speaks Spanish. Family Center is now fully functioning, two computers parents can come in check attendance, grades etc. designated printer for the family center. 4 First day of school went really well, students were engaged in three lessons Respect, Behavior and Success, ended the day with a rally. Every student, staff and boosters were given shirts which were Olympic theme. The teachers were trained on 08/16/2016, in Restorative practices, in a “nut shell” helping teachers continue to work on ways to building relationships with students, parents and staff. 5 New app. MVHS is getting a new app this year everything will be available at your fingertips through your phone. It is a branded version. No advertisements, the app has an assignment and other links, etc. etc. for students and parents. 6 Any sport, club etc. that is doing a fundraiser needs to email Kevin Andersen this is not for permission but to allow the school not to compete with the organization for the possibility of the same fundraiser. 7 Treasurer’s report- Purchased Quick Books on line, with the ability to send reports via email. If you would like your account info. on the second week of the month give Jacque your email and it can automatically be emailed to you so you have the information before the 3rd week of the month which is when the booster meeting is held. 8 Athletic director (AD report) – Charlie Ramey Davis has taken over the softball program; Mark Toscano is the new girls basketball program. New chains etc. were ordered and will be here by the 1st home game. Coaches/ P.E. teachers will be getting with their asst. coaches to go over what kind of equipment they would like for the new weight room and all the information will be reviewed. New boys soccer coach Trevor Harris to be tabled to next month, needs new uniforms. With the sport moving to winter, MVHS will need to purchase another set of soccer goals. Brad Ward and or Trevor Harris are in the process of getting the bids for the soccer goals. Athletics has new punch card which cost $60.00, has 20 punches which basically works out to the purchaser paying $3.00, per punch. You can use punch card only at MVHS home games for any sport that has an entrance fee. New prices for all events that charge an entrance fee, was voted on by the GEL AD’s and principals to increase the entrance fees which are now $7.00, $6.00 and $5.00. Officials, medical and other costs associated with the sports programs have all increased. There is a stadium fund set up with San Juan (between both schools) they will paint the field for MVHS home games therefore the coaches and or AD do not have to schedule to have the field painted. A thank you for booster for their donation to Athletics to help offset costs for officials, medical ambulance etc. for the sporting events. 9 Activities- Kevin Andersen- Thanks to booster club for purchasing the first day of school t-shirts. Homecoming dance is 10/22, four parents needed to help asked booster club if they could help. MVHS purchased computer program that will help them track what activities students attend and how they help at the school. For example, if a teacher sees a student picking up trash they can scan their ID card and it is tracked. MVHS will scan in the students that attend sporting events, dances etc. This will also help MVHS determine which students are attending specific events and those that are not to determine why they are not and how MVHS can get them involved. It can do survey’s and polls whether or not an activity was liked or disliked. They hope to roll out during homecoming week. 10 Merchandise- Vicky continues to work with our vendor on the merchandise for the upcoming year Committee Reports- 1 Bingo- bingo is still doing well; still need parent volunteers for core positions. 2 Grad Night- Positive feedback from some of the seniors that attended Magic Mountain grad night this past year. Crab feed is scheduled for the 1st Saturday in March 2017. 3 Membership- Lindsey Adkins is our new membership chair person 4 Snack bar- going well Upcoming events: Home football game vs. Argonaut, on 08/26/2016, this game was voted as game of the week for KCRA channel 3. The new MVHS helmet was displayed received many positive ooohs and ahhhhssssss. Next meeting is 09/21 Meeting ended at 8:26 pm, Respectfully submitted, David Rillera, Board Secretary .
