MORE ON JEFFERSON Not only did Jefferson have more carries in a game than any other Nevada player since 2007, he never came out of the game. Nevada ran 89 offensive plays in the game against Cal and Jefferson was on the field for every single one of them. It was Jefferson’s third 100-yard game of his career and his first three-touchdown game. It was his first-multi-touchdown game since the New Mexico State game (Oct. 29) last season.

TEN STRAIGHT OVER THE CENTURY MARK With Stefphon Jefferson’s 147-yard effort against Cal, Nevada ran its streak of con- secutive games with at least one 100-yard rusher to 10 straight games. The streak began against UNLV on Oct. 8, 2011 when Jefferson had his first career 100-yard game. It’s continued into 2012 as four different Nevada players have been involved in extending the streak. The stretch includes one game – vs. Louisiana Tech in 2011 – in which two Nevada players topped the century mark in the same game. Here’s the breakdown: Player Carries-Yards Opponent (Date) Stefphon Jefferson 17-100 vs. UNLV (Oct. 8, 2011) Stefphon Jefferson 14-108 vs. New Mexico (Oct. 15, 2011) Mike Ball 26-198 vs. Fresno State (Oct. 22, 2011) Lampford Mark 8-185 at New Mexico State (Oct. 29, 2011) Lampford Mark 24-105 vs. Hawaii (Nov. 12, 2011) Cody Fajardo 22-110 vs. Louisiana Tech (Nov. 19, 2011) Lampford Mark 28-109 vs. Louisiana Tech (Nov. 19, 2011) Lampford Mark 22-111 at Utah State (Nov. 26, 2011) Lampford Mark 24-104 vs. Idaho (Dec. 3, 2011) Lampford Mark 29-183 vs. Southern Miss (Dec. 24, 2011) Stefphon Jefferson 34-147 at Cal (Sept. 1, 2012)

WIM RETURNS Senior wide receiver Brandon Wimberly missed all of the 2011 season due to in- jury but his senior season got off to a solid start on Saturday. Wimberly led Ne- vada in receiving with 7 catches for 83 yards. Five of the catches went for first downs – including three first-down receptions that came on third-down plays. None was bigger than his last catch – a 19-yarder on third-and-9 that took Nevada to the 2-yard line, setting up Stefphon Jefferson’s game-winning score. Wimberly, the 2009 WAC Freshman of the Year and a 2010 All-WAC selection, at full strength in 2012 and will lead what is a very young receiving corps for the Wolf Pack. Entering this week, Wimberly has caught at least one pass in every collegiate game of his career, a streak of 28 games that started at Notre Dame to open the 2009 season. That streak ranks as the sixth-longest in the nation entering the 2012 season. Consecutive Games With At Least One Reception

SUDFELD SHINES Nevada tight end Zach Sudfeld is in his sixth season at Nevada but the senior has appeared in just 23 games as he’s battled a number of injuries during his career. After redshirting in 2007, he missed all of the 2008 season due to injury. He missed three games in 2009 and three more in 2010. Going into the 2011 season, Sudfeld was poised for a breakout season, only to see everything come to an end with a broken bone in his lower leg during the season opener at Oregon. His career was thought to be over but late in 2011, Sudfeld made up his mind to come back for one more year. It took some time to sway Chris Ault but the head coach eventually agreed and the NCAA later approved a sixth season for Sudfeld due to medical hardship. Sudfeld’s perseverance and leadership were rewarded in August when his team- mates voted him as a team captain. Said Sudfeld of the honor: “This being my sixth year, I’ve seen five years’ worth of captains before me and knowing some of those guys and who they were, on and off the field, I am just so incredibly hon- ored to be selected.” The senior came up big against Cal, with four catches for 41 yards. And it was the timing of the catches that showed Sudfeld is one of Nevada’s go-to players. His first two catches each came on third-down plays of drives that resulted in touchdowns. His third catch was good for nine yards to open what would prove to be Nevada’s game-winning drive in the fourth quarter. Later in the drive, with Nevada facing third-and-4 and outside of field-goal range at the Cal 38, Sudfeld leaped to haul in a 16-yard pass from Cody Fajardo to give Nevada a first down and keep the drive alive. Four plays later, Stefphon Jefferson scored the game-winning touchdown. 5 Nevada Media Services - Legacy Hall/MS 232 - Reno, NV 89557-2232 Fax: 775.784.4386
