Film Review: Quartet by Cassie Bloom. A delightful film about a group of classical musicians living in a retirement home -Beecham House. The beautiful Estate surrounded by expansive garden is a visual treat. Pauline Collins ( Cissy ) is quite forgetful but gracefully accepts support from her friends. Tom Courtney ( Reggie Paget ) is nursing a broken heart after a brief marriage to Maggie Smith ( Jean Horton ) . A drama ensured when Maggie moved to the retirement home without prior knowledge of her ex – husband ’ s presence. Further adding another dimension to the film is vintage Billy Connolly ( Wilf Bond ) who is still young at heart and tries to chase any skirts in sight, without much success. Funds need to be raised to save the retirement home and a gala concert organised. Lots of emotion, as first time director Dustin Hoffman does a good job behind the lens. It sure is a long way from the day of The Graduate.

Pet’s Corner Megan’s “Hearing Dog” Jonesy Jonesy is a Lions Hearing Dog and lives with Megan, who is Deaf and is the MetroAccess Project Officer at Kingston City Council.

Jonesy’s role is to be Megan’s ears, especially around her home. Jonesy alerts Megan to a variety of sounds by touching her on her leg with his paws and then taking her to the sound.

Some sounds that he is trained to alert Megan to are: mobile phone, oven timer, bed alarm and door. He also alerts her to the fire alarm, but instead of taking her to the fire alarm, he touches and then drops.

Jonesy has a few tips on how you can keep your dog cool during a hot day. *Make sure there are shady spots available and more than one bowl of drinking water in yard. *Avoid long walks and strenuous exercise during the heat of day. *Avoid being out in the sun for too long - not only is there a risk of heat stroke, dogs can get sun burnt too. *Remember to protect your dog's feet from getting scorched by hot pavement.

Dear folks, I have received your letter and thought I would like to write you a bit about my darling pussy. Her name is Imelda – she likes to play with shoes. Well Imelda is the loving little pal, she sleeps with me all night, and she wakes me sometimes by patting my cheek with her paws. She never chases the birds, she just looks at them. She is also very shy and will hide if she does not know who is coming into the house. I just could not do without her now. She was also rescued from being put down just one day before it came about and she was only one year old then. Imelda never leaves the yard in our home. I just love her to bits. From Bessie.

Unusual Pets

Sheep, goats, ferrets, birds and rats are all considered best friends and loved pets. Recently a man was taken to court as his pet goat had feasted on public floral blooms. Do you have an interesting animal pet story ?
