Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord;

and let light perpetual shine upon them. 2 GATHERING IN GOD’S NAME INTROIT HYMN 1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation; O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation; all ye who hear, now to his altar draw near, join in profound adoration. 2 Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee; surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend thee: ponder anew all the Almighty can do who with his love doth befriend thee. 3 Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him! all that hath life and breath, come now with praises before him! let the Amen sound from his people again: now as we worship before him.

COLLECT OF THE DAY Let us pray. Amen.

4 THE LITURGY OF THE WORD [sit] A reading from the book Sirach. 15:15-20

If you choose, you can keep the commandments, and to act faithfully is a matter of your own choice. He has placed before you fire and water; stretch out your hand for whichever you choose. Before each person are life and death, and whichever one chooses will be given. For great is the wisdom of the Lord; he is mighty in power and sees everything; his eyes are on those who fear him, and he knows every human action. He has not commanded anyone to be wicked, and he has not given anyone permission to sin.

For the word of the Lord, thanks be to God.

PSALM 119:1-8 Please repeat after the Choir and then sing as indicated

1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless: who walk in the law of the Lord.

2 Blessed are those who keep his commands: and seek him with their whole heart;

3 Those who do no wrong: but walk in the ways of our God.

4 For you, Lord, have commanded us: to persevere in all your precepts. R

5 If only my ways were unerring: towards the keeping of your statutes!

6 Then I should not be ashamed: when I looked on all your commandments. R

7 I will praise you with sincerity of heart: as I learn your righteous judgements.

8 I will keep your statutes: O forsake me not utterly. R Text: APBA Response: TIS 75 5 A reading from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians. 3:1-9

Brothers and sisters, I could not speak to you as spiritual people, but rather as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for solid food. Even now you are still not ready, for you are still of the flesh. For as long as there is jealousy and quarrelling among you, are you not of the flesh, and behaving according to human inclinations? For when one says, ‘I belong to Paul,’ and another, ‘I belong to Apollos,’ are you not merely human? What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. The one who plants and the one who waters have a common purpose, and each will receive wages according to the labour of each. For we are God’s servants, working together; you are God’s field, God’s building.

For the word of the Lord, thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION & READING

You shall love the Lord your God: with all your heart, and mind, and soul, and strength. Alleluia.

You shall your neighbour: as you have love for yourself. Alleluia.

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mathew. 5:21-37 Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ.

On the mountain, Jesus gathered his disciples around him and taught them, saying: ‘You have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, “You shall not murder”; and “whoever murders shall be liable to judgement.” But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgement; and if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council; and if you say, “You fool,” you will be liable to the hell of fire. So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift. Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are on the way to court with him, or your accuser may hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison.

6 Truly I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny. You have heard that it was said, “You shall not commit adultery.” But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell. It was also said, “Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.” But I say to you that anyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Again, you have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, “You shall not swear falsely, but carry out the vows you have made to the Lord.” But I say to you, Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let your word be “Yes, Yes” or “No, No”; anything more than this comes from the evil one.’

For the Gospel of the Lord, praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

Sunday School Prayer – Mother Linda Sermon – Mother Jill

The Nicene Creed is said, introduced by the deacon [stand] Let us together affirm the faith of the Church:

We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. 7 We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL The deacon says [kneel or sit] Let us pray for the world and for the Church.

After each prayer After last prayer …in your mercy, Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord; hear our prayer. and let light perpetual shine upon them.

The presiding priest concludes the prayers Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

[stand]

THE GREETING OF PEACE We are the body of Christ. His Spirit is with us.

The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

You are invited to exchange a sign of peace with those around you. During the Offertory Hymn, a collection is taken up.

OFFERTORY HYMN 1 The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord; she is his new creation, by water and the word: from heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride; with his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died.

8 2 4 Elect from every nation, Mid toil and tribulation, yet one o’er all the earth, and tumult of her war her charter of salvation, she waits the consummation one Lord, one faith, one birth; of peace for evermore; one holy Name she blesses, till with the vision glorious partakes one holy food, her longing eyes are blessed, and to one hope she presses, and the great Church victorious with every grace endued. shall be the Church at rest. 3 5 Though with a scornful wonder Yet she on earth hath union we see her sore oppressed, with God, the Three in One, by schisms rent asunder, and mystic sweet communion by heresies distressed; with those whose rest is won. yet saints their watch are keeping, O happy ones and holy! their cry goes up, “How long?” Lord, give us grace that we and soon the night of weeping like them, the meek and lowly, shall be the morn of song. on high may dwell with thee.

Samuel John Stone (1839-1900) Tune: Aurelia (TiS 457)

Hosanna in excelsis. Hosanna in the highest. Benedictus qui venit Blessed is he who comes in nomine Domini. in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in excelsis. Hosanna in the highest.

9 The presiding priest continues the Eucharistic Prayer; the deacon says

...Great is the mystery of faith.

The presiding priest continues the Eucharistic Prayer, concluding with

…in songs of never-ending praise:

The deacon says

As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are confident to pray:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND COMMUNION

The presiding priest breaks the bread and says We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread.

Agnus Dei is sung [kneel or sit] Agnus dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, miserere nobis. have mercy on us. Agnus dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, miserere nobis. have mercy on us. Agnus dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, dona nobis pacem. grant us peace.

10 The presiding priest says Behold, Jesus is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. Happy are those who are called to his supper. Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word, and I shall be healed.

The gifts of God for the people of God.

Communicant members of all churches are welcome to receive Communion. If you would prefer a blessing, indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest. Please feel free to stand or kneel at the altar rail. Gluten free altar breads are available, please tell the priest if you require one.

THE SENDING OUT OF GOD’S PEOPLE

Announcements are made after Communion

DISMISSAL HYMN

1 When love is found and hope comes home, sing and be glad that two are one. When love explodes and fills the sky, praise God and share our Maker’s joy.

2 When love has flower’d in trust and care, build both each day, that love may dare to reach beyond home’s warmth and light, to serve and strive for truth and right.

3 When love is tried as loved-ones change, hold still to hope, though all seems strange, till ease returns, and love grows wise through listening ears and opened eyes.

4 When love is torn, and trust betrayed, pray strength to love till torments fade, till lovers keep no score of wrong, but hear through pain love’s Easter song.

11 5 Praise God for love, praise God for life, in age or youth, in calm or strife. Lift up your hearts! Let love be fed through death and life in broken bread.

Brian Arthur Wren (b. 1936) Reproduced with permission. TiS 654 Tune: O Waly, Waly
