World Vision’s approach to development is focused on improving the well-being of children, especially the most vulnerable. A commitment to sustainability is at the heart of all we do. Building on local assets in collaboration with communities and partners, World Vision contributes to the sustained well-being of children by working at four levels: Children Empowering children with good health, spiritual nurture, and basic literacy, numeracy and essential life skills. These skills enable children to be productive, contributing citizens and agents of change throughout their lives. Households and Families Improving household resilience by increasing livelihood and caregiving capacity. Caregiving includes physical, psychosocial and spiritual care, as well as issues of resource allocation and gender equity within households. This ensures that increased income and assets lead to improved child well-being for both boys and girls. Community Strengthening the resilience and capacity of communities and partners to respond to present and future challenges to child well-being, including disasters, in ways that are environmentally sustainable. Enabling Environment Working to ensure that systems, structures, policies and practices (at local, national, regional and global levels) support and protect the well-being of children, especially the most vulnerable 5 CHILD WELL-BEING Every second 4.3 people are born worldwide. World Vision’s work is focused on ensuring the sustained well-being of children, especially the most vulnerable. We work with families, communities and partners to ensure that children: • enjoy good health • are educated for live • experience the love of God and their neighbours • are cared for, protected and participating • Our child-focused approach prioritizes the poorest and most vulnerable children, and empowers them together with their families and communities to improve their well-being. Toward this goal, World Vision works to support children to be healthy and strong, well-fed, immunized and have access to clean water. We also work to keep children safe from harm, protected against abuse, neglect and exploitation. We strive to enable children to become equipped for life with knowledge, skills, confidence and hope. We believe children deserve to live in thriving families. We seek to improve the livelihoods of families so that they are able to provide for their children’s needs and to live their lives in its fullness in body, mind and spirit. We also help children to survive disasters with life-saving supplies, care and support.
