Marketing Activities Of BMW INTRODUCTION The BMW Group is a manufacturer of luxury automobiles and motorcycles. It has 24 production facilities spread over thirteen countries and the company‟s products are sold in more than 140 countries. BMW Group owns three brands namely BMW, MINI and Rolls- Royce. This project contains detailed information about the marketing and promotional activities of BMW. It contains the history of BMW, its evolution after the world war and its growth as one of the leading automobile brands. This project also contains the information about the growth of BMW as a brand in India and its awards and recognitions that it received in India and how it became the market leader. This project also contains the launch of the mini cooper showroom in India and also the information about the establishment of the first Aston martin showroom in India, both owned by infinity cars. It contains information about infinity cars as a BMW dealership and the success stories of the owners. Apart from this, information about the major events and activities are also mentioned in the project, the 3 series launch which was a major event has also been covered in the project. The two project reports that I had prepared for the company are also a part of this project, The referral program project which is an innovative marketing technique to get more customers is a part of this project and the other project report is about the competitor analysis which contains the marketing and promotional activities of the competitors of BMW like Audi, Mercedes and JLR About BMW BMW (Bavarian Motor Works) is a German automobile, motorcycle and engine manufacturing company founded in 1917. -

Keil BMW Product Communications Specialist 201-307-3790 / [email protected] THE HISTORY OF THE BMW 5 SERIES The concept originated in the late fifties; its success continues today. At the time, BMW made the decision to develop an automobile which had not existed in Germany yet: a stylish, mid-sized four -door car with a sporty chassis and a powerful engine and was comfortable enough for five passengers and agile enough for fast motoring. The marketing strategists gave it the name “The New Class” and in 1961, the BMW 1500 was born. The design of the New Class was neither conservative nor was it influenced by the American style. Instead, it was more reminiscent of Italian lines – after all Giovanni Michelotti had been involved in the design. The overhead cam inline 4-cylinder engine was the first German touring sports engine. With a maximum output of 80 horsepower at 5700 rpm, the BMW 1500 approached a top speed of 93 miles per hour. The suspension of the new BMW attracted particular attention. The wheel location of the front wheels was provided by a transverse link, supported by a tension strut and a McPherson strut. The rear wheel suspension was particularly sophisticated, controlled by a rubber-mounted semi -trailing arm bolted to the differential. The driving response remained neutral in virtually all conditions; the suspension was tight but not uncomfortable. The interior provided safety features such as padded upper and lower edges on the instrument panel and a padded steering wheel hub. -

During the 1970s he worked in research and was responsible for establishing Porsche’s crash test programme; in the 1980s, he followed Porsche’s head of research to BMW and set up BMW Technik, the department which designed the Z-series of sports cars. Tempted back to Porsche in 1988, Bez campaigned to save the company by rapidly updating the 911 with the interim 993 and introducing the premium 4-door 989. Disagreements with the board over this model caused him to leave Porsche; he later resurfaced at Ford where he took charge of Aston Dr. Ulrich Bez (1988) Martin, leading the company to independence in 2007.
