These are Wadi M’zi (Laghouat region) and Wadi Djedir (Djelfa region). The sampling strategy developed in this work is based on the analysis of the upstream and downstream waters of each watercourse. - 2- - 2+ Eleven physico-chemical parameters (T°C, pH, CE, OD, Cl , SO4 , NO3 , Salinity, Ca , 2+ - Mg and HCO3 ) were measured to establish a diagnosis of the state of health of these aquatic ecosystems. Macroinvertebrates were studied using kick-net sampling at eight study sites. The faunistic inventory of benthic macroinvertebrates identified 37 families, mostly represented by insect larvae (96%). Among these, Diptera and Ephemeroptera were the most dominant orders, with other groups being relatively poorly represented. The results obtained show that the physico-chemical quality of the water is slightly dete- riorated, but the quality is still evaluated as ‘good’ according to the biotic indices 1. Several mitogenomic approaches have been employed to reconstruct the phylogenetic history of the Pantherine cats but the phylogeny has remained largely unresolved till date. One of the major reasons for the difficulty in resolving the phylogenetic tree of Pantherine cats is the small sample size. While previous studies included only 5-10 samples, we have used 43 publically available taxa to reconstruct Pantherine phylogenetic history. Complete mtDNA sequences were used from all individuals excluding the control region (15,489bp). A Bayesian MCMC approach was employed to investigate the divergence times among different Pantherine clades. Both maximum likelihood and Bayesian phylogeny generated a dendrogram: Neofelis nebulosa (Panthera tigris (Panthera onca (Panthera uncia (Panthera leo, Panthera pardus)))), grouping lions with leopards and placing snow leopards as an outgroup to this clade. -

ABSTRACT : The work presented here focuses on the inter-annual variability of annual rainfall in Northern Algeria. This work is carried out by using the coefficient of variation (the ratio between the standard deviation and the average). We will try to show areas of low, medium and high variations in Northern Algeria. In order to do this, we use 333 rainfall stations spread over the entire study area, with a measurement period of 37 years (1968/2004). The contrast of rainfall spatial and temporal distribution has been demonstrated by studying the sixteen basins, as adopted by the National Agency of Water Resources. The high spatial variability characterizes the basins of the High Plateaus of Constantine and Chot El Hodna. RAPPORT DE SITUATION SUR L’EPIDEMIE DU COVID-19 en Algérie Date de début Le premier cas positif a été déclaré le 25 février 2020 Rapport N° 110 Date du rapport : 10 Juillet 2020 Date des Données 09 Juillet 2020 à 16H Quatre cent soixante (460) nouveaux cas de COVID-19 ont été notifiés le 09 juillet 2020 portant le total des cas à 17 808 depuis le début de l’épidémie ; Dix (10) nouveaux décès ont été notifiés ce jour portant le total à neuf cent quatre-vingt- huit (988) décès de cas confirmés depuis le début de l’épidémie (létalité des cas confirmés par PCR : 5,55%) ; Dix (10) wilayas sur les 48 n’ont pas notifié de nouveaux cas confirmés pendant les dernières 24 heures ; Trois cent huit (308) patients parmi les cas confirmés ont été sortis de l’hôpital guérit ce jour après des tests de contrôle négatifs portant le nombre total des patients sortis de l’hôpital depuis le début de l’épidémie à 12 637 ; Cinquante-trois (53) patients COVID-19 sont sous assistance respiratoire dans les services de soins intensifs sur l’ensemble du pays ; Maintien du confinement jusqu’au 13 juillet 2020 pour 29 wilayas dont Alger et Blida avec aménagement des horaires de 20h00 à 05h00 du matin. I am ensconced in the regional archives, searching for records relating to colonial-era disease control in Algeria’s communes mixtes (mixed communes). In place from 1858 to 1956, these colonial administrative units covered immense swathes of rural territory, encompassing centres de colonisation inhabited by a “mixed” population and outlying Muslim villages and settlements—the douars—under the sole charge of a centrally appointed administrator.1 In one archival box relating to the arrondissement of Bougie (Bejaïa), I find an improvised booklet constructed from quadrille paper threaded together with string. Sloping cursive lettering on the title page proclaims this to be a vaccination logbook: “Year 1936. Protection of Public Health (decree of 27 May 1907). Service of vaccination and revaccination. Mr AMRANE Mohand, vaccinator.” I immediately recognise Mohand ould Ramdan Amrane as one of the auxiliaires médicaux (medical auxiliaries), also known as adjoints techniques de la Santé publique, whose careers I have been tracking through personnel files and correspondence in the Algerian National Archives. -

Much of their personality and history are, however, exaggerated. This overblown persona made them targets for human hunters, looking to keep their ever expanding territories safe, leading to the extinction of the Barbary Lions. In the wild, they were social mammals who lived in prides, much like the lions of today. They resided in mountainous and hilly areas and often took shelter in forests. Being carnivorous predators, they relied on instinct and teamwork to take down prey such as gazelles. Their fate has often been tied to that of humans who had the ability to catch and control them. The decline of Barbary Lions remains to this day a curious topic for researchers, with efforts being made to locate the purest specimens. Cool Facts • Lions were used as tax payments or lavish gifts. This caused royal families of Morocco to house many Barbary Lions, which eventually made their way to zoos across the world. • These lions are believed to have gone extinct in the 20th century. This would make them one of the most recent extinctions • They are said to have fought gladiators in the Roman empire.
