1 University Institute of Technology Prospectus Page :1 UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY OF KERALA PROSPECTUS FOR ADMISSION TO B.Sc (COMPUTER SCIENCE), B.Sc (ELECTRONICS), BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (B.B.A.), B.Com (COMMERCE WITH COMPUTER APPLICATION) AND BACHELOR OF COMPUTER APPLICATION (B.C.A.) (CAREER-RELATED FIRST DEGREE PROGRAMMES UNDER CHOICE BASED CREDIT AND SEMESTER SYSTEM (CBCS SYSTEM) The University of Kerala has set up an Institute of Technology with regional centres at Adoor, Alappuzha, Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanapuram, Pirappancode, Yeroor, Kottarakkara, Thenmala, Sasthamcotta, Karuvatta, Mukhathala and Mannar to train students for employment in R & D institutions, industry, business organisations and for self-employment. With this aim, the University has started B. Sc. (Computer Science), B. Sc. (Electronics), Bachelor of Computer Applications (B.C.A.), Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) courses which are designed as three (3) year, six (6) semester single main bachelor degree courses and B. Com. (Commerce with Computer Applications) which is designed as a three (3) year, six (6) semester three main bachelor degree course. Each semester shall consist of 16 to 20 working weeks covering not less than 90 working days. From the academic year 2010-2011 onwards, the UITs offer Career-related First Degree Programmes under Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCS System) in B.Sc (Computer Science), B.Sc (Electronics), BCA, BBA and B.Com (Commerce with Computer Application). ELIGIBILITY OF ADMISSIONS 1. B.Sc (Computer Science) – Code : 001 A pass in the Higher Secondary/Technical Higher Secondary/Vocational Higher Secondary Examination of Govt. of Kerala or CBSE or ICSE or Pre-degree examination of the University of Kerala or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto by the University of Kerala with Mathematics as one of the optional subjects. 2. B.Sc (Electronics )– Code : 002 A pass in the Higher Secondary/Technical Higher Secondary/Vocational Higher Secondary Examination of Govt. of Kerala or CBSE or ICSE or Pre-degree examination of the University of Kerala or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto by the University of Kerala with Physics as one of the optional subjects. Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) – Code : 003 The eligibility for admission to B.B.A degree course under the University of Kerala is a pass in the Higher Secondary/Technical Higher Secondary/Vocational Higher Secondary examination of the Kerala State Government or CBSE or ICSE or Pre-degree examination of the University of Kerala with any subject combination or any other examination declared by the University of Kerala as equivalent thereto. 4. B.Com (Commerce with Computer Application) – Code : 004 A pass in the Higher Secondary/Technical Higher Secondary/Vocational Higher Secondary Examination of Govt. of Kerala or CBSE or ICSE or Pre-degree examination of the University of Kerala or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto by the University of Kerala. In the case of Non-Commerce group, a minimum of 45 per cent of the aggregate marks in the qualifying examination is required. 5. Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) – Code : 006 A pass in the Higher Secondary/Technical Higher Secondary/Vocational Higher Secondary Examination of Govt. of Kerala or CBSE or ICSE or Pre-degree examination of the University of Kerala or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto by the University of Kerala with Mathematics as one of the optional subjects. C. ADMISSION PROCEDURE - CALCULATION OF INDEX MARKS 1. B.Sc (Computer Science) Total marks obtained for the qualifying examination +marks for Mathematics and Physics (or Computer Science, only if the student has not included Physics in the qualifying examination) .The candidate who have studied Computer Science at +2 level, the score obtained in Computer Science paper be added, instead of the score in Physics, 2011 Admissions onwards(Ac.A.IV/3150748/2011,dtd 10.06.2011) 2. B.Sc (Electronics) Total marks in Higher Secondary + Marks for Physics. 3. Bachelor of Business Administration(BBA) Total marks in Higher Secondary Examination. 4. B.Com (Commerce with Computer Application) Total marks in Higher Secondary + Marks scored for Accountancy + Weightage of 15% of marks scored for Business Studies. 5. Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) Total marks in Higher Secondary + marks for Mathematics. D. RESERVATION The existing norms of the University on reservation of seats, weightage of marks and concession to different categories of candidates shall be followed in UITs also. E. FEE 1. (A). Semester Fee B.Sc Computer B.Com (Commerce BBA Science / B.Sc with Computer Electronics / BCA Application) Tuition Fee Rs 8,500/- Rs. 7,000/- 8,000/- Other Fee (Lab, Library, etc) Rs. 4,000/- Rs. 3,000/- 4,000/- Total Rs. 12,500/- Rs. 10,000/- 12,000/- (B). In addition to the above, the students should pay an Annual Group Insurance Premium of Rs.25/- and a one time Affiliation Fee of Rs. 300/- 2. Examination Fee The student will be liable to pay the examination fee as prescribed by the University from time to time. 3. Caution Deposit (Refundable) A caution deposit of Rs.5,000 for B.Sc (Computer Science) / B.Sc (Electronics) / BCA and Rs. 1,500 for BBA/B.Com (Commerce with Computer Application) will be collected at the time of admission, which will only be refunded at the end of the course or upon the student leaving the Institute, after deducting any dues payable to the Institute or the University. 4. Exemption from payment of Tuition Fee Students eligible for fee concession (SC, ST, OEC) will be exempted from payment of tuition fee only subject to the condition that application for educational concession in the prescribed form duly filled in will be submitted within a month from the date of admission. Note : Fee once paid will NOT be returned or refunded or adjusted against any other dues to the University under any circumstance. F. A PPLICATION DETAILS AND P R O C E D U R E ( O t h e r than those register through online , if notified separatel y ) 1. Application for admission has to be made only in the prescribed form. 2. Separate application form is necessary for each course of study at each centre. 3. Application form and prospectus may be downloaded from or www.keralauniversity.ac.in 4. Filled in application should be submitted along with a Demand Draft for Rs. 210 /- (per application) taken from SBT/SBI/District Co-operative Bank drawn in favour of Finance Officer, University of Kerala payable at Thiruvananthapuram or Cash receipt for Rs. 200 /- remitted at the University Cash Counter or at FRIENDS Centres (Jana Sevana Kendras). Page :3 5. Filled in application forms should reach the office of the Principal(s) of the respective centre(s) not later than 3.00 p.m. on the last date mentioned in the notification. UIT bears no responsibility for delayed receipt or loss in transit. Applications which are not duly filled in and / or without the required certificates will be ‘summarily rejected’. 6. Applicants should enclose self-attested copies of the following documents and a self-addressed envelope with required stamp for ordinary post along with each application. i) Proof of age ii) Copy of Mark List iii) Copy of Pass Certificate of Qualifying Examination iv) Copy of Course and Conduct Certificate v) Copy of certificate in respect of reservation/weightage claimed (in the proforma attached). G. GENERAL 1. Candidate should produce their original certificates and mark lists at the time of interview / admission. 2. Candidates should appear for interview / admission at their own cost. 3. If any candidate who is provisionally selected fails to report to the Officer concerned on or before the specified date and time or if he/she fails to pay the fee indicated in the admission memo, his/her selection will stand cancelled. 4. The admission lists will be provisional and subject to confirmation by the University. 5. In all matters of admission, the decision of the University will be final and binding. 6. The University will not be responsible for non – receipt or late receipt of application forms, admit card/ interview memos and other correspondence regarding admission. 7. Late applications will not be considered under any circumstance. 8. The name of the applicant and the purpose of remittance should be written on the reverse side of the Demand Draft.
