Chairman’s Chat

Hi everyone,

Well I am on the road to recovery, although it will take a while yet to be completely back to my old self, as the reduction to steroids has to be done slowly. Since the last newsletter I have also had a chest infection & spent another day at the hospital.

Did someone say things come in three’s?

On behalf of the Club, I would just like to thank Carol & Andy Schultz for not only allowing the club annual bonfire to take place, at their home, but also to Andy for building the bonfire & helping set off the fireworks. Unfortunately I couldn’t make it this year, but by the photos & comments on our Facebook page it looked like a really good night (Also dry, nicely arranged Andy)

Well we are rapidly nearing the festive season, so this will be penultimate newsletter of the year.

Also on the 26th November is the last club night of the year, which will be the annual quiz, set and hopefully delivered by me (fingers crossed).

Well that’s all for this month, sorry my chat is short this month. I look forward to seeing you at some of these last few events of this year.

28th January 2020 — AGM At the Railway in Leyland

Annual subscriptions The subs have gone up this year, which is the first increase for very many years. This year they are £20 per family, irrespective of the number of MGs you have or indeed, whether you have one or not. The forthcoming year is our 40th year of existence. We are extremely fortunate to have as the head of the 40th Anniversary Committee Eric Smith. Eric is not only the Chairman of the Anniversary Committee, he is also a founder member of the club and the club’s Honorary President Anyone who heard his interview with Brett Davidson on Radio Lancashire could not have failed to have been impressed by both his very confident delivery and the depth of knowledge he displayed when talking about the club. I am very sure he will spend a few moments at the Annual Dinner in explaining what he and his committee have laid on for us in 2020.

40th Anniversary

Dear All

I just want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have already placed an order for some of the Anniversary Regalia, which we started to promote, at the October Club Night.

Can we ask that you bring along your cheque books, rather than cash to pay for your pre-orders which we hope to have available for this club night.

Those of you who haven’t yet ordered, a tee shirt or cap or jacket, to mention a few regalia items please see any of the committee who will be pleased to take you size and order on the night.

Finally...our 2020 Events Calendar will be commencing in January , with the Annual Dinner and Awards night on Saturday 4th Jan. Please consider attending this as it’s a great evening and venue.

Thank you. See you soon,

Best regards Eric

Anyone wishing to pay in to the club account for their regalia can do so in advance of club night and use the reference “402020” November 2019 Page 5

th Annual Weekend Away – aka Bill’s Weekend Romp - 12

June to 15th June

The annual weekend away for 2020 will be based at Peebles, Scottish Borders. It is over three nights and includes accommodation on a half board basis. In addition to the accommodation, the following items are also included :- A lavish route book containing tulip diagrams for all the routes Entrance to various tourist attractions Bacon sandwich at the start and two light lunches Help and advice from other participants in the event of problems Use of the hotel’s spa facilities including swimming pool

Additional information The overall format is similar to previous years insofar as the first day is tulip routed to the venue. For those wishing to travel part way the day before, hotel bookings will be made for you.

The routes chosen are generally the most scenic available, but none of the routes will be difficult. The hotel has available upgraded rooms for those wishing to spoil their partners. One day over the weekend we will visit one or more items of historic appeal. Shops may well be available as we are conscious this a break for both drivers and their navigators.

The other day will be a driving day and will cover roughly 100 miles with the possibility to either extend this or reduce it slightly. As mentioned previously, if you do encounter problems, there are a large number of participants ready, willing and able to offer help or advice. I can attest to this as I had a bit of a problem on last year’s trip. I’m assured by Mr Schultz that he has now found a cure for my B engine to stop it running backwards! However, this may be a gearbox with four reverse gears but I hope not. If any potential participants have any questions or want additional advice, please don’t hesitate to contact me on [email protected] Cost for 2020 will be between £290 and £295 per person. Please note, there is no single person supplement. In addition, we cater brilliantly with single people as we have a rotating ‘buddy’ system for the routes to eliminate difficulties in navigating on your own.

Could I please ask for expressions of interest. This is not a commitment, but simply a suggestion you may be interested in the event. The commitment will come in January when I will request a modest deposit. So please let me know if you are interested.

Best Wishes
