utting aside our individual desire for we MG folk to gather together in the P traditional manner that we desire it nevertheless must be gratifying that the ACT at the moment of writing is free of active Corona Virus cases. I’m sure we all acknowledge our responsibilities to maintain concern for the health of our family, our friends and for all other Canberrans. I warmly thank all those club members for renewing their annual memberships just as in past years. As such, if you are driving a CRS registered vehicle your MG is again legally registered. If not, don’t risk fines and/ or the consequences of a serious breach of your insurance coverage. Please prioritise. Club Regalia will shortly be able to offer you our distinctive MG Car Club Can- berra sash to enhance the windscreen of your car when presented on display at our events. Mark has presented options to the committee and the flash sash selected will surely not disappoint. Unfortunately our 2020 Weekend Away to the Griffith Citrus Festival scheduled for October must now be deferred until next year. The city organisers have re- duced the festival activities, eliminating many of the attractions and social events. In addition the Club Committee is obliged to accept and comply with the ACT Government advice on avoiding unnecessary interstate travel. The motor racing authorities decided to deny permission for our Wakefield Park MG Club laps of the track later this month. A photographic drone was ready to film our forty odd MGs circulating at a “moderate speed”. Concern was that our crowd would bring an excessive number of persons to enjoy the venue. Pity we are so popular. We will just have another go next year and meanwhile look at other photographic options. Nevertheless please be aware that it is possible for you to meet together with other MG friends of your choice for a friendly cup of coffee, cake and a chat, somewhere in a corona virus compliant manner. Some MG folk gather on Tues- days at Weston Park by the Miniature Railway Café for morning coffee. The nearby Natter there over lunch continues at midday as it has for decades. A

I’m looking for further interesting home garage venues for shooting more of the MG Club video broadcasts. Trevor Clement kindly provided this months garage location and Mark and I soaked up the vintage atmosphere in his iconic man cave. We soon will be holding our Annual General Meeting, albeit in a different man- ner. Please consider nominating for a position on the Club Committee. An active Social Co Ordinator is particularly welcome and will be provided with strong sup- port.

Keep safe everyone and please all keep in touch.

hese testing times can make it difficult to maintain your positivity, T especially when the world and our States and Territories, and indeed, our country, seems to be continually trying to get to the surface to take a breath. I feel the need to keep abreast of what is going on, but, most of the stories on the news and in papers are negative and that is a hard pill to swallow while try- ing to maintain positive outlook. A couple of things that have been helping me keep an even keel are going to either the 10:00am coffee gathering at the Train Station in Weston park on a Tuesday morning for a warm beverage and Scones with Jam and Cream (scones courtesy of Mrs Tuckey), or the lunchtime natter (bring your own lunch) at the second picnic area on the right, again in Weston Park at 12.30pm. These are gatherings where you can just leave the rest of the world behind and be in the moment, talking, laughing and joking with others who also want to es- cape for a little while. Even if you can’t stay for long, if you have the opportunity drop in and have a quick cuppa and then continue on with your day. I must admit, it can be a little chilly at times in winter but a warm jacket, tweed flatcap and merino wool scarf keep the cold at bay. Best of all there is lots of open space at both venues where we can appropriately socially distance no matter how many turn up. I have found that when I usually leave I have something that I want to get home and do on the cars due to conversations had or topics bought up. A great mech- anism to obtain motivation and idea’s to keep occupied and maybe spruce up your pride and joy. And just in case you thought this year was bad... Yours in MG’ing Mark

A Nostalgia Piece from The T TYPE

The following article is from a magazine called ‘The T- Type’ the official journal of the T-Series Association ofAustralia. The T-Type magazine was around during the 70’s and 80’s and was consid- ered the “go to” place in Australia for T Type tech- nical information. This article was featured in the Winter of 1976 edition and is reprinted here as the topic and content is probably as relevant today as when it was written. The bundle of magazines this article comes from was recently given to us by Bob Larkin of the South Coast as I have found them astonishingly easy to rebuild! MG Metro 6R4 cutaway Notably the big difference with the Metro compared to all others in this group was the fact that it was the only one using a larger capacity naturally aspirated engine, where all the others were using smaller capacity forced induction engines. The international specification cars would achieve a 0 to 60mph time of around 3.0 to 3.2 seconds. The gear- ing was obviously low to maximise the acceleration so that top speed would equate to maximum rpm and usually MG Metro 6R4 stock holdings set at between 110 and 120 mph at around 9000rpm. The 6R4 was built just for the purpose of achieving international rally success for Austin Rover and based upon a space frame chassis. Suspension was then attached direct to this chassis with suitable space being present for the rear mounted engine and four MG Metro 6R4 and wheel drive system.
