CAREER RECORD AS A HEAD COACH Gregory, who has previously led programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11) and spent nearly a decade as an assistant 300-235 (.561 winning pct. / 17th season) coach under Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo. Gregory’s resume includes nearly 300 career head coaching wins and seven postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT championship and the 2019 CBI championship. RECORD AS USF’S HEAD COACH In his first season at the helm at USF, Gregory led the Bulls to the team’s first double-digit win season since the 2013-14 season and tripled the team’s conference win total from the previous season. The Bulls ended the regular season with back-to-back victories 52-55 (.486 winning pct. / 4th season) over Memphis (3/1/18) and SMU (3/4/18), marking the first time since 2016 that the team won consecutive conference games. The 75-51 victory at Memphis was the Tigers’ worst home loss in 19 years. HONORS Under Gregory’s tutelage, 11 student-athletes made the USF Athletics Honor Roll in his first full semester as head coach in fall • 1988 Great Lakes Intercollegiate All-Conference 2017. Gregory also coached the team’s first American Athletic Conference All-Rookie honoree since 2016 in freshman David Collins. Collins capped off his impressive freshman campaign by being named the conference’s final Rookie of the Week and scored 30 • 1989 Great Lakes Intercollegiate All-Conference points in the first round of the conference tournament in Orlando, becoming only the fifth Bulls freshman in history to reach the • 1990 Great Lakes Intercollegiate All-Conference 30-point plateau. In addition to Collins’ honors, four different Bulls were named to The American Weekly Honor Roll in 2017-18, making five appearances on the list. • 1990 Academic All-American Gregory’s rebuilding project came full circle in his second season with the Bulls. In 2018-19, he guided USF to the best turnaround in the NCAA by leading the Bulls to a school-record 24 wins, 14 more victories than the season before en route to winning the PERSONAL College Basketball Invitational for the program’s first postseason tournament championship since 1990. Along the way, USF won a school-record 18 home games and finished with eight wins in The American to post its most victories in league play since joining • Married to wife Yvette for 25 years the conference in 2013. In addition, USF turned in its best finish in the standings in league history, won three road games in league • Has two daughters, Isabella (19) and Elyse (16) play for the first time ever, won five postseason games in the same season for the first time in school history and had two five-game winning streaks in the same season for the first time ever. • Participated in Operation Hardwood in Iraq in 2008 and 2009, visiting military bases throughout the country to help lift morale and provide basketball instruction. Under Gregory’s direction, the Bulls set school records for the most single-season free throws made (658), free throw attempts (1,018), three-pointers (272) and rebounds (1,483). USF also registered 306 steals to record the second-most in a season in school history. Additionally, the Bulls also set AAC single-season records for free throws made and attempted. Individually, the Bulls featured the 2019 AAC Defensive Player of the Year in guard Laquincy Rideau and the 2019 AAC Freshman of the Year in forward Alexis Yetna. Rideau became the first player in school history to win a defensive player of the year award HEAD COACHING CAREER and Yetna was tabbed the second freshman of the year in school history and first since 1979. Rideau and Collins were both named All-Conference Third Team to become the first players at USF to ever make all-conference in The American. Collins was also tabbed Season School Position Record/Postseason the CBI Most Valuable Player and Rideau was one of only three players in the NCAA with 100 assists and 100 steals. Rideau ended the season with 189 assists and 101 steals to become the first player in AAC history to lead the league in both assists and steals. 2003-04 Dayton Head Coach 24-9/NCAA First Round Collins scored 587 points and had the sixth-most single-season points in school history and the ninth-most in league history. 2004-05 Dayton Head Coach 18-11 Gregory helped Yetna become only the fifth player in school history with 300 rebounds in a season. Yetna also tallied the most rebounds in a single season in league history and the second-most in school history. 2005-06 Dayton Head Coach 14-17 Gregory’s third season with the Bulls was most of the most highly-anticipated seasons in recent memory, but USF was dealt a 2006-07 Dayton Head Coach 19-12 crushing blow two days before the start of the regular season when it learned that Yetna would miss the entire 2019-20 season with a knee injury. Still, Gregory’s gritty Bulls won 14 games and turned in victories over UConn, Temple, Memphis and SMU. USF finished 2007-08 Dayton Head Coach 23-11/NIT Quarterfinals the regular season having won three of its last four games and were poised to make a deep run in the conference tournament before its cancellation due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.
