HERE IS THE LATEST INFORMATION ON TROPICAL STORM 18W AS RECEIVED FROM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GUAM AND COMPILED AT THE CNMI HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT, OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR. TYPHOON PHANFONE IS MOVING AWAY FROM THE MARIANA ISLANDS. THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS CANCELLED FOR PAGAN AND ALAMAGAN AND SURROUNDING WATERS. THERE ARE NO WATCHES OR WARNINGS IN EFFECT. AT 100 PM CHST...0300 UTC...THE CENTER OF TYPHOON PHANFONE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 16.8 NORTH, LONGITUDE 143.1 EAST THIS IS ABOUT: 205 MILES NW OF SAIPAN AND TINIAN 200 MILES SOUTHWEST OF PAGAN 190 MILES WEST-SOUTHWEST OF ALAMAGAN PHANFONE IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST AROUND 9 MPH...AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. PHANFONE CONTINUES TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS...AND NO LONGER POSES A THREAT TO LAND AREAS IN THE MARIANAS. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE 75 MPH. SIGNIFICANT STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. FOR THE RESIDENTS OF SAIPAN AND TINIAN. CONTINUE TO TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAYS DUE TO HEAVY RAINS SHOWERS AND POSSIBLE FLOODING IN LOW LYING AREAS ASSOCIATED WITH TYPHOON PHANFONE 18W. THE CNMI HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT WILL BE MONITORING THE MOVEMENT OF TYPHOON PHANFONE 18W AND WILL BE ISSUING BULLETINS AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE.
