There have been a disturbing number of rumours circu- lating recently about an alleged series of events which, if proven true, may bring to light some truly unsavoury be- haviour by several of those that attended the last gathering of the factions. If the astonishing, but unsubstantiated, claims are true, then it would ap- pear that members of both the Keepers and the Summer Stars may have become involved in the trading of illegal goods which would alarm even the shadiest of characters. Further investigation will be needed to corroborate, or deny, this apparent scandal which supposedly ended with a transaction that saw an elven child baby being traded, as if it were common currency, for mundane material goods, using the dark shroud of night to obscure their appalling activities. If you have any information to add to this claim, or know of any lost elven baby, please contact Artemus Black via the tavern waiting staff. All informa- tion will be kept confi dential and a reward may be given if the information leads to concrete evidence of the above claims. The recent tragic ac- cident of their very own Master of Lore, (whose dominion over the way- faring demon Alcohol has certainly diminished following an unfortunate disagreement with a tree root whilst possessed by an inordinate amount of liquor) has led them to fear their once treasured substance of abuse. With the uncertainty of their Master of Lore (whose fate now laid in the hands of the Gods), faction members turned to the only thing they could in troubling times which almost led to the demise of yet another Vagrant who was heard trying to bribe anyone who answered their call to kill them, rather than deal with the ensuing aftermath of being keelhauled twice in one night. In response to this world wide affliction the charity V.O.D.K.A was born. V.O.D.K.A is a support network for anyone be they Human, Fae, Beast or Unclassified, who have suffered or fear near certain death whilst possessed by bad Spirits. Whilst speaking with one of the co-founders Palin of the Va- grants he stated that ‘Had such a group exist in times past then perhaps our dear Poops would still be with us today, had she not been drunk before running into battle her head may still be attached to her shoulders.’ Palin has also seen first-hand the consequenc- es of Alcohol, now recovering from the amputation of his wings after they were ripped from his back by an im- measurable amount of water, he vows to save as many who are willing from the same fate. The question one has to ask however is; What are the signs that I may be possessed by alcohol? To help you on this quest of tolerance we have devel- oped a simple guide that has taken many moons in the making over many a tankard of Ale. V.O.D.K.A represent- atives have suffered the indignities of this audacious af- fliction so that others may learn from our investigations. 1. HOLLANDER SECOND EDITION, REVISED y UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS PRESS AUSTIN • 1962 The Flyting of Loki Lokasenna It is safe to say that the "Lokasenna" is not, and never was, in any sense, a popular lay. It is the product of a witty and clever skald who conceived the idea of showing the solemn and glorious gods from their seamy side. As interlocutor he uses Mephistophelian Loki, who engages the various gods and goddesses in a senna (a flyting, or running dialogue of vitupera- tion) of at times very spicy quality in which each and every one gets his or her share of defamation, until the disturber of the peace is finally put to flight by Th6r's threat of violence.

Mr Dedman’s Victory Suit: intimate stories of make do and mend An exhibition showcasing research by Amanda Ravetz and Antonia Riviere at Manchester Metropolitan University Special Collections Monday April 15th – Friday August 30th 2013 “Renovation Helps The Nation”: clothes rationing in Britain and Australia during World War 2 An essay to accompany the exhibition Mr Dedman’s Victory Suit: intimate stories of make do and mend Unfinished Mending (detail) 2008-present Hand-dyed linen skirt, scrap cotton, fabric from silk ties, stranded embroidery thread Introduction Photo: Ruth Whitten Amanda Ravetz In 2012 my sister Antonia Riviere and I were Visiting Fellows at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. Our topic was Australian clothes rationing during World War 2. Using our skills in visual anthropology (Amanda) and textiles (Antonia), we wanted to investigate Australian austerity during the war years. How had film been used to support the government’s austerity drive? Had Australians been encouraged to ‘make do and mend’ like their British counterparts? And how could we use our own making to explore these and other questions? The exhibition Mr Dedman’s Victory Suit: intimate stories of make do and mend presents the results of our research. It considers the constraints associated with practices of ‘making do’ and explores makers’ responses to the effects of Still from All That Was Old Is New Again Amanda Ravetz 2013 Cover image: © Simon Riviere, 2013 these constraints on their inner lives.
