Ardingly Reservoir: Something for Everyone…… Reservoir is the perfect place to enjoy the summer weather. Once you’ve parked in the car park and taken a short walk to the top of the grassy hill, the beautiful reservoir stretches out in front of you. Turning left, you are greeted with the Activity Centre, boasting an array of activities to get the whole family out enjoying the water. An hour on a stand up paddle board is a good way to explore the reservoir or if you’re bringing the family, hire a large SUP which can hold 4 adults. Alternatively, renting a sit-on-top kayak is a good way to get younger children out on the water and paddling away in the sun. The centre also offer parties, so why not celebrate a special occasion or take a day out of the office and build and race rafts together! If water based activity is not for you, turn right and you can follow the newly revamped Kingfisher Trail, which will lead you on a 45 minute walk around the right hand side of the reservoir. If you would like a longer walk carry on over the causeway onto the bridle path and follow the Kingfisher Trail up the Arm. You will be able to enjoy wonderful views across the water and perhaps spot some grebes, buzzards, mallards and perhaps even a kingfisher. And of course there is always the onsite café offering hot and cold drinks, cakes, sandwiches and ice creams and and is open every weekend and in the school holidays. It makes for a perfect destination on a summers day when you ask yourself, ‘what are we going to do today?” And in no time at all, everyone will be smiling!

Can You Help? Pre-School Treasurer Required The position of Pre-school Treasurer currently stands empty. The role of Treasurer is an important one and is essential to fill to ensure the continued smooth running of Pre-school. Becoming Treasurer is a great way to get involved in the education of children, a wonderful and rewarding way to give back to your community, meet friends and build up your CV and skills. If you, your partner or any local friends, regardless of whether they are currently parents of pre-school aged children, are interested in learning more about the role, please contact the Pre-school for more information about what the role entails.

3 Dog Walking on Showground Under Threat As you are probably aware two new bins w e r e i n s t a l l e d adjacent to footpaths b y t h e S o u t h o f England Showground last year due to issues with dog waste in bags being dumped on the ground; rather than dog owners taking it home with them. We are now unfortunately experiencing issues with dog owners leaving bags of dog waste on top of the bins and underneath them when they are full. However this is not acceptable as it is a health hazard and, moreover, the people who come along to empty the bins are not able to have easy access to the bin.

Ardingly village celebrates As a dog owner, it is your responsibility to clear up behind your dog. The Parish Council pay for the costs of emptying these bins. Commonwealth Day However, if they are full we ask that you take it home with you. Ardingly celebrated Commonwealth Day on Monday, 12th Dog waste can now be deposited in landfill bins, so there is no March with residents, Councillors, District Councillors, reason not to take it home and put it in your own bin – after all representatives of local businesses, and children from St Peters the dog belongs to you! Snooker Team Brings Silverware to Ardingly Ardingly’s snooker team recovered from a slow start to the 2017/18 season to win the second division of the Mid-Sussex league by a comfortable margin, having been unbeaten since the start of the year. Steve Korniotis and Nick Ertl ended the season as the second and third best players of the ninety nine who took part in the league. Nick Potter (captain), Bryan Jenner, Alan Smith and Roy Simmonds also contributed greatly to the strong season.

The team was started five years ago and, after winning the third division its’ first season, has continued to improve, winning a knockout cup last year. It remains to be seen how they will perform in the significantly higher standard of division one, but the whole team is looking forward to the experience. They play socially on Wednesdays and Fridays at the Ardingly Royal British Legion (opposite the Inn, next to the car park) and welcome new players. The standard is not particularly high (especially on Friday nights) despite the great season, and anyone who has played a bit of snooker in their mis-spent youth would soon get up to speed and would be very welcome. Please call Nick Potter (891 193) or Roy Simmonds (892 064) for more info, or just turn up on a Friday evening. We play matches on Thursdays during the season. 4 Get Ready For A Close Up As ever, the heart of the show will feature the best examples of 2,000 animals including cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and horses; and Of The Countryside over 320 quality retail stands and firm family favourites; the Shetland Pony Grand National, Hound Parades, Inter Hunt Relay, Brimming with an impressive range of world-class show jumping impressive Heavy Horse turnouts, and British agriculture, horticulture, forestry, not forgetting the amazing Livestock display, expertly equestrianism, rural crafts, delicious food and drink, plus an abundance of retail stands, the South of England Show 2018 will soon be here with gates open on Thursday 7 June for three gloriously fun-packed days offering an unforgettable experience of exciting family entertainment combined with a unique close up of the countryside.
