In a letter addressed to Gladys Berejiklian, the consortium, which also included academics, lawyers and community and faith leaders, expressed its concerns over further delays in implementing the Act. Carolyn Kitto, co-director of Be Slavery Free, a global coalition working to prevent, abolish and disrupt modern slavery, said there are more slaves in the world today than any other time in history. “Every day, 25,200 people, as a guestimate, enter slavery. So, every day that this is delayed, NSW, which is the seventh largest economy in Asia, loses an opportunity to set a standard about ending modern slavery.” Ms Kitto, one of the signatories of the letter, believes the Act, if put into force, will help end slavery in the supply chain. “It’s estimated that 70 to 80 per cent of slavery is actually in the supply chain of the goods that we buy, and we’ve been an importing country,” she said. The method was applied to differentiate native fish sites of national significance from those of regional significance or local significance. Of 19 rivers or river segments evaluated one was considered of regional significance, namely the Lower Waiapu; the remainder are of local significance.

It is a strangely empty felling, given I have been cheering for the bloke for a decade. “Manu is a club legend,” managing director Jim Doyle said. “We didn’t make this decision lightly but after years of service we didn’t want to stand in his way.” I can’t say anything this week that I did not say last week, so farewell Warrior No 115, and thanks for the 226 appearances, some of them great, some not, but you will always be “The Beast” to me, even if, having come to know you a little bit, it is the most ill-suited name they could possibly have given you. I will miss your presence, I will miss your smile, I will miss your laughter. I will miss your carries, I will miss your all or noth- ing approach, and I will miss your tries. It is going to be a long time before anyone overhauls that all-time try-scorer record of 152.
