THE WALDEN LANDSCAPE IN THE EARLY SEVENTEENTH CENTERS AND ITS ANTECELENTS Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the University of London by John Louis Mnkk Gulley 1960 ABSTRACT This study attempts to describe the historical geography of a confined region, the Weald, before 1650 on the basis of factual research; it is also a methodological experiment, since the results are organised in a consistently retrospective sequence. After defining the region and surveying its regional geography at the beginning of the seventeenth century, the antecedents and origins of various elements in the landscape-woodlands, parks, settlement and field patterns, industry and towns - are sought by retrospective enquiry. At two stages in this sequence the regional geography at a particular period (the early fourteenth century, 1086) is , outlined, so that the interconnections between the different elements in the region should not be forgotten. -

This story is set just after the events in the episode TimeLash . For those familiar with the UFO novelization Primary Target it takes place between chapters 11 and 12. It was the middle of the afternoon when Miss Scott put the call through to Lieutenant General James Henderson, USAF, retired, chairman of the International Astrophysical Commission. "General Henderson?" The voice on the other end said. "This is Doctor Frazer, Mister Straker's physician. Would you mind coming over to Mayland Hospital as soon as possible? We need authorization for his treatment." "What kind of treatment?" Henderson asked, heart sinking. Ed Straker hadn't seemed in that bad of condition when Henderson left SHADO headquarters a few hours earlier. Straker had been weak from exhaustion, confused, even frightened. But, he had recognized Henderson and Paul Foster standing there in the medical center room, Henderson was sure of that. And Doctor Jackson had given them every reason to believe Straker would be fine, despite what the aliens had done, twisting time out of shape. "What happened?" "Mister Straker has gone into respiratory failure," Frazer said. "We have him on life support, but we need authorization for anything more aggressive." "What's his condition?" "Critical." "Do what you need to, doctor," Henderson told him. -
How It Ended
UFO: How It Ended: part 2 by Anthony Appleyard ([email protected]) This story is written in a development of the fictional world of the 'UFO' space fiction series by Gerry Anderson that was shown on ITV (British television) in the 1970's. The 'HR' star serial numbers are in the Harvard Revised Photometry catalogue, see e.g. the Bright Star Catalogue published by Yale University, New Haven, Conn., USA. SUMMARY OF EVENTS SO FAR I am Commander Ed Straker, commander of SHADO, trying to patch up Earth's space security after recent events. The alien threat seemed to be gradually receding, until four UFO's drew my Interceptors and planes away, letting six others get through. They landed in Scotland, hid in a lake, waited, and 15 days later got away. They made disastrously successful use of that landing. By tapping satellite phone links they tricked or enticed some human electronics students and armaments designers into going with them and aiding them. From them the aliens got new weapons and were all too thoroughly shaken out of their long-term stasis of sticking to the same technology, and SHADO could no longer routinely stop them from landing; one attempt to stop them cost me all three of my Interceptors in one day, and they destroyed SID soon after. Two of these landings were at Arden on the west shore of Loch Lomond in Scotland, seen close up by tens of thousands of people and utterly unhideable. In breach of alien official policy, a faction among the aliens, later backed up by their local command, made more public contacts with Men who wanted interstellar travel and helped them to set up space kit factories on Earth. -

The special effects, supervised by Derek Meddings , [1] were produced with limited resources. Sylvia Anderson also designed the costumes for the show, including the Moonbase uniforms and purple wigs that female staff wore; the wigs were to become a major reference point for the series. The final section looks at the merchandise produced whilst and since the series was shown, as well as mentioning the newly released Bluray editions. Community Counsellors' Experiences of Trauma and Resilience in a Low-Income Community
COMMUNITY COUNSELLORS' EXPERIENCES OF TRAUMA AND RESILIENCE IN A LOW-INCOME COMMUNITY by Arlene Benjamin Dissertation presented for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Psychology at Stellenbosch University Promoter: Prof. R.L. Date: 20 February 2014 Copyright © 2014 Stellenbosch University All rights reserved ii Stellenbosch University http://scholar.sun.ac.za ABSTRACT Violence is considered a global mental health problem. The rate of violence in South Africa is amongst the highest in the world and much of this violence is disproportionately skewed towards the poorer and historically disadvantaged communities. Low-income communities continue to bear the brunt of historical legacies of violence which are perpetuated through current ongoing cycles of interpersonal and community violence. While much has been documented about trauma and resilience in environments where the violence or traumatic event has ceased, there is a dearth of literature conceptualising trauma and resilience in contexts where the violence persists. Furthermore, even fewer studies have captured how trauma and resilience are conceptualised from the perspectives of the voices who experience this violence daily. The social constructionist framework of this study aims to contribute to the knowledge of how trauma and resilience is constructed by those who experience ongoing violence, and whether resilience and healing does occur in an environment of continuous traumatic stress. -

Paths of Fear, a UFO Novelization

The original characters and plot are the property of the author. The author is in no way associated with the owners, creators, or producers of any media franchise. No copyright infringement is intended. CHAPTER 1 It was the second Friday of the month, the one day each month Ed Straker refused to permit SHADO to intrude. On the second Friday, Saturday when school was on, there were no U.F.O.s screaming in from space, there was no SHADO organization, he was not on call. This was the one day each month he could genuinely say he looked forward to. This was the day British divorce court documents allowed him to visit his son. John had been pestering him for the last two months, since school broke up, for a visit to Harlington-Straker Studios. Today, after some serious consideration, Straker agreed to give his eight and a half year old son a tour of the production facilities the boy found so fascinating. The boy had no knowledge of the real reason for the studios, naturally, to hide the existence of SHADO Headquarters, eighty feet below the sets, offices and sound stages. There was a new McDonald's restaurant just a mile down the road from the studios. After the obligatory hamburgers and french fries, they spent the afternoon exploring the back lots, nooks and crannies of the film studios.
