HINTS FOR WALKING Dress appropriately for the weather. Wear suitable supportive footwear. Walk to increase breathing but not to exhaust. Drink plenty of water. Remember to bring any necessary medication e.g. inhaler. Summer Walks, Jul-Sept 2014 Tell a walk leader if you are leaving a walk. The recent mild and wet winter has produced a large increase in the “Deer Tick” population. Whilst only a small proportion of Ticks carry Lyme disease, it is a real risk. They are easiest to pick up in long grass, so please try and wear long trousers whenever possible dur- ing our summer walks. If you do get one, DO NOT try treatments such as burning or butter, but use a pair of tweezers as close as possible to where they are attached to you and pull directly away. Treat with anti-bacterial ointment. If symptoms similar to a cold develop soon afterwards, see your doctor and tell them about the bite.
