Designed in the Chicago School tradition by legendary American architect Daniel Burnham during the peak of his career, this skyscraper, once the tallest in the city, had the prestige of bringing the new era of the City Beautiful movement to Detroit’s bustling center. Clad in glazed terra-cotta with accents of white Italian marble, the original architectural exterior remains pristine today with its subtle Neo-Classical ornamentation. Forward thinking to its core, the Ford Building was the first skyscraper in Detroit to be framed with steel--speaking to the city’s unsurpassed legacy and continued excellence as a vibrant center of innovation and technology. The Ford’s spirit of progress continues to embody its renovation today. historic photograph, 1915 historic building posters 6 ford building historic photograph, 1915 615 griswold street 7 3 city & building access Centrally located off M1- Woodward Avenue, the Ford Building boasts unrivaled access from all of Metro-Detroit and Ann Arbor.
