Dr. Jerry Schmoyer [email protected] http://www.mainstreetbaptist.org/ - http://india.mainstreetbaptist.org/ Warfare. Who wants it? Very few seek out and enjoy a battle. Those who do are usually considered a bit strange. Yet that’s what the Christian life is all about. When we join God’s army and desert Satan’s forces we better be ready to fight to retain our freedom. Salvation is secure, but triumph in daily life only comes through warfare, spiritual warfare. It’s nothing new, its always been around, even before Adam and Eve were created. It’s always been with us and will be until Jesus returns. We battle the world, the flesh and Satan and his forces. Since Adam and Eve allowed sin to enter Satan has been the ruler of this world system (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11; Epheisans 6:10-13). The coming of Jesus was the invasion of the kingdom of Satan by the kingdom of God in the person of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ (Matthew 12:28-29). But it was a subtle invasion, and infiltration behind enemy lines which brought the powers of evil to bear against it. Jesus is gone but His people now continue this work. We are bringing light to a dark world, and the darkness does all it can to resist the light. The world we live in is still under the control of Satan (I John 5:19). We are implanted here to disrupt enemy operations and rescue as many as we can who are chained in bondage to darkness. That’s what our warfare is all about. And it doesn’t get easier as the last days approach and the end is near. Yet often God’s people are unaware of this battle and take by surprise when they realize the warfare they are in.

Yet, rupture remains at the heart of what African charismatics understand themselves to be doing. In this paper, we attempt to nuance this conversation about rupture in religious change in Africa by discussing that various ontologies of spiritual warfare are encountered, made legible, reframed, and redeployed, through direct interactions between Africans and Americans in the context of missionization. We illustrate the patterns of these reciprocal flows through two case studies drawn from our larger research projects. One study illustrates the case of Matthew Durham, a young American missionary who, when accused of sexually assaulting children at an orphanage in Kenya, adopted the spiritual counsel of a Kenyan missionary that the reason he had no memory of the attacks was because of his possession by a demon. Another study discusses the example of a Navajo pastor who applied charismatic techniques of spiritual warfare when under metaphysical threat during a mission trip to Benin, but simultaneously focused on building ontologically protective social networks with Africans. Americans and Africans involved in the flows of global Pentecostalism are equally sympathetic to charismatic renewal.

Arnold, Three crucial questions about spiritual warfare.1 INTRODUCTION In October 2013, a group of six men and one woman, armed with sticks and stones, invaded the church of Muxima—the most important Catholic pilgrimage site in Angola. In the middle of Sunday Mass, they proceeded to destroy the statue of Our Lady of Muxima. Before they could complete their mission, however, they were cornered and pin- ioned to the foor. The group belonged to a Pentecostal church known as the Prophetic Church of Judaic Bethlehem’s Ark.     Stance and Guidance on Spiritual Warfare, Spiritual Gifts, and Deliverance What is prayer? Prayer is a personal communication with God. It is the means by which we are able to intercede for others, confess our sin, express adoration, praise, and thanksgiving. It is also the means by which God communicates with us. By praying in the name of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 1:1–2), with the Bible as our guide (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16–17) and the Holy Spirit as our mediator (Romans 8:26–27), we are conformed to think God’s thoughts after Him (1 John 1:9, 5:14–15; Romans 12:2; 1 Timothy 1:5; 1 Peter 1:6–7; Psalm 8:1; James 4:8). Why do we pray? Prayer is the way we express our trust in God and how we are continuing to grow in our dependence on Him. The primary biblical emphasis for a believer to pray is to use faith and increase our reliance on God’s sovereignty and provision. The first words of the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9), “Our Father who art in Heaven,” is an expression of dependence by the one praying and trusting in our wise Father who is ruling from His heavenly throne (Psalm 22:28). Therefore, we pray to express our trust in and love for God. Prayer is a means of loving God and enjoying His presence. Prayer is also a means of bringing glory to God and declaring His great worth. God instructed us to call on His name through prayer (1 Chronicles 16:11; Psalm 145:18; Colossians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 4:17).

Jonathon O‘Donnell Secularizing Demons Fundamentalist Navigations in Religion and Secularity The outcome of humanity‘s Fall from Eden, English philosopher and scientist Francis Bacon wrote in The New Organon, ‗did not make the creation an utter and irrevocable outlaw.‘ This ‗not‘ marks a site of possibility. Bacon held that prelapsarian perfection would only be regained at world‘s end; however, parts of it could be regained in earthly life. These came in two main types: innocence, which might be healed by God‘s grace through religion and faith, and dominion, which could be repaired by human arts and sciences as ‗man, by manifold labours… compels the creation, in time and in part… to serve the purposes of human life‘ (2000, 221). It was this Baconian idea of dominion, Peter Harrison claims, which informed the birth of modern science as the ‗struggle to recover, through effort and industry in the present life, capacities that were once part of the natural endowment of human beings‘ (2007, 158). Although rooted in Christian scriptures, however, this struggle led to complications: modern science found its relationship to the Fall narrative that prompted it increasingly strained, and eventually unsustainable: the ‗uneasy relationship between the rational principle of design and the more fragile historical concept of the Fall was resolved in favour of the former‘ (ibid., 247).

We commit ourselves to actively sit in our rightful place in the heavenly realms with Christ Jesus, walk daily in the power of the Holy Spirit and stand strong in the Lord’s mighty power, with His armor fully in place, resisting the enemy in the time of evil. Understanding Who God is, What Jesus did on the Cross and the Role of the Spirit in our lives GOD - We need a firm revelation of who God is, what Jesus did on the cross and the role of Holy Spirit in our lives in order to effectively engage in any level of spiritual warfare. Without a clear experiential knowledge of God’s love and character we will not be able to walk in faith and power.

Many Christians want to place everything else as the truth, and there are plenty of other areas with the opportunity to talk about the Gospel, including the next verse. But that's not what Paul was referring to here in this verse. He was referring to the truth , the matter under consideration , which was spiritual warfare , and there is no better message than the breastplate of righteousness to start this mini- series within this series. This has been a very confused subject throughout history, but by the time I am done, you will hopefully have a better understanding of what type of righteousness God is referring to in these verses. Spiritual Warfare Movements P a g e | 1 Spiritual Warfare movements Just as the population has exploded over the past hundred years so one movement after another has spawn off the unanchored Pneuma ministries1. These began with the Wesleyan – Finney revivals which led to the Holiness – Pentecostal movements, through the First Wave, Second Wave and Third Wave movements which have now spawn the Strategic Level Spiritual Warfare (SLSW) movement. The theologies to support these and other movements are likewise as fluid. There is the Latter-Day Rain theology, Dominion Theology, Kingdom-Now Theology, Apostolic Reformation Theology, which use terms like “Manifest Sons of God,” “Joel’s Army,” and “IHOP.2” Overarching city-wide churches are in development to be led by modern-day apostles and prophets who purport to give contemporary revelations for believers in all the local churches, especially concerning the conquering of geographical demons and end-time prophecies.
