During 2016 Kivells Auctioneers conducted 25 sales of Farm and Plant Machinery which totalled over 24,854 lots sold on behalf of Farms and Businesses from all over the South of England & beyond. For the first time in Kivells 132 year history, Holsworthy Machinery Sales alone have exceeded the £1 million bracket! Holsworthy Livestock Market New Market Road, Holsworthy, Devon EX22 7FA Holsworthy Market Office 01409 253275 / Email: [email protected] 14 ‘On Farm’ Dispersals totalling £1.2 million Throughout 2016 Kivells have had the pleasure of selling over 9,939 lots of farm machinery and effects on behalf of customers through ‘on site’ dispersals from Honiton in East Devon to Torpoint in South Cornwall. One of our most successful farm sales of 2016 took place at St Mabyn in North Cornwall which saw a huge crowd of buyers on site and using phone bidding facilities pushing the best of the tractors to £46,500. The sale was a real credit to our vendors with one of the best line ups of machinery sold on one farm for many years. One of the biggest sales was the important sale of machinery and equipment on behalf of B&B Agricultural Sales Ltd at Doublebois on the edge of Bodmin Moor. Hundreds of buyers travelled to the sale from as far afield as Shropshire, Monmouth and Kent to witness 652 lots selling to a top of £12,500 for a Sigma Dynometer. Following the decision to give up the tenancy of Little Stone Farm near South Molton in North Devon we conducted the dispersal of machinery on behalf of M/S Kiff and Family which included the Massey Ferguson 6480 which hit £15,500 and the best of the implements at £5,500 for the Bomford hedge trimmer selling to a farmer from Exmoor. At Launceston in June buyers travelled from Wales, Cheltenham and all parts of the South West to see the dispersal on behalf of Roy Baker and Family who pushed the best to £19,000 for the ’51 plate wheeled digger, whilst the best of their tractors hit £11,100 for the fully restored ‘N’ reg Ford 7000. The top call for the vintage tractors was £11,000 for the Field Marshall Series 2 Mark 2 on behalf of Mr Ford of Ivybridge in South Devon, whilst at the dispersal on behalf of Caleb Jennings at Higher Clovelly £4,300 was given for the ‘L’ reg Massey and at the same sale we sold the ‘N’ reg Landrover (no MOT) to £2,500 which now lives in pride of place at the Landrover Experience Unit on the edge of Exeter. After a lifetime of farming the land at Trehan Farm near Saltash, The Greet Family dispersed their farm machinery with the top call of the day being £4,700 for the Case International tractor which was driven back over the Tamar Bridge to its new home near Newton Abbott. 2016 Farm Sale Foot Prints… Vintage Machinery & Goods Throughout 2016 we have seen 14 sales of Vintage & Heritage goods in all parts of the West Country with buyers prepared to travel long distances for the right thing. The highlight of the year was in early August where, amongst the line-up of vintage tractors was the collection of 12 from their home in South Cornwall. As always, our very special ‘Dingles’ auction took place in the Autumn of the year with the day being topped by the Field Marshall in from M/S Ford of Ivybridge reaching £11,000. Amongst the more unusual lots sold this year by our Heritage Department was the ’31 note’ Leach Fairground Organ which hit £5,000 on behalf of the Gallie Family of Penzance and is now in regular use entertaining shoppers in South Molton Square. The October sale near Launceston also included a superb entry of original vintage tractor seats which raced away to a top call of £350 for the ‘WH Reed of Launceston’ seat which was sold to a collector based on Exmoor. Plant Machinery Sales Over the past few years Kivells have become one of the leading plant and machinery Auctioneers in the UK. With over 1,500 lots of plant equipment sold to buyers from all parts of Great Britain and Ireland, our vendors have been delighted with the sales results achieved throughout the year. Topping the year was the Hitachi Excavator sold at Holsworthy in August for £68,000 going to its new home in North Somerset whilst the dispersal of timber and plant machinery was sold on the same day at Holsworthy for M/S MJ Contracting of Newton Abbott which topped at £14,400. In early June at St Clether in North Cornwall Kivells conducted the retirement sale for Roy Baker which included the Digger making £19,000, the Takeuchi TB235 at £16,900 as well as the best of a line-up of ‘aged’ but well maintained Dump trailers at £5,000. In November a massive entry of over 2,500 lots saw 5 Auctioneers selling at the same time at the monthly Machinery sale in Holsworthy with the top of the day being £26,000 for the CAT D6M Dozer on behalf of Luke Furse of Ashwater going to its new home in Wiltshire whilst the smaller items of plant machinery topped on the same day at £2,900 for the Neuson Hi Tip Dumper on behalf of Glanville Plant. Holsworthy Monthly Machinery Auction hits £1.1 million The Monthly sales at Holsworthy continues to see more and more machinery going under the hammer with between 2,000 – 2,500 lots being the regular entry. Topping the 58 tractors sold this year at Holsworthy was the Massey Ferguson tractor in from M/S Grigg of Week St Mary which hit £20,000 whilst John and Millie Hill saw their best Massey hit £13,200 and another on the same day at £10,000. In the Spring of the year trade continued to fly with the ’56 plate New Holland tractor hitting £14,100 going to its new farm in Salisbury. In the May sale lot 33, being the New Holland tractor from Kenny Hemmings of Bideford stole the show at £18,000 going to Helston in West Cornwall closely followed by the John Deere 6320 of Bodmin which reached £17,000. In August the private collection of 12 vintage tractors from South Cornwall looked a picture with the Oliver 1850 (non-runner) towering over the rest and topping at £5,500. Just a few weeks later M/S Cuthbert of Henwood, Cornwall dispersed their quality line-up of vintage tractors which saw a top call of £3,200 for the 1946 John Deere Row Crop. As we move into 2017 the current position of the UK pound is helping the export trade greatly and is having a very positive effect on the price of 2nd hand farm and plant machinery.
