YOUNG STARS LEAD WAY IN ACAPULCO QUARTER-FINALS

QUARTER-FINALS PREVIEW: Four of the ATP World Tour’s brightest rising stars - No. 4 seed (22) of Austria, No. 5 (23) of , No.7 (24) of Bulgaria, and American qualifer (18) lead the way in the quarter-finals at Acapulco.

The opening match on Cancha Central is a first time meeting on the ATP World Tour between Ukrainian and Tomic. The 28-year-old Marchenko is appearing in his eight career ATP World Tour quarter-final (3-4 record) and is looking to reach fourth career ATP World Tour semi-final (0-3 record). The top ranked Aussie reached a new career-high ranking of No. 17 after opening season with semi-final appearance in Brisbane (l. to eventual champion Raonic). He is appearing in his fourth quarter-final of the year (1-2 mark).

Following is the fourth meeting between Ukrainian and Dutch (Haase leads 2-1). The Ukrainian is playing in the quarter-finals here for the fourth time. He has a 10-3 tournament record and is a two-time semi-finalist – 2011 (l. to eventual champion Ferrer) and 2014 (l. to Anderson). Prior to reaching the quarter-finals the Dutchman’s best result of the year was second round three times – last week at Marseille (l. to Cilic) and back-to-back at Doha (l. to Nadal) and in opening month.

Rising stars Thiem and Dimitrov meet for the first time in the third quarter-final. The Austrian is playing here on a career-high ranking of No. 15 after reaching the semi-finals at Rio de Janeiro (l. to Pella) last week. Two weeks ago he captured his fourth career title at Buenos Aires (d. Nadal in SF, d. Almagro). The Bulgarian captured his second of his four career title here in 2014 (d. Anderson).

Americans and Fritz meet for the first time in the last quarter-final of the day. The 28- year-old American is appearing in his third consecutive ATP World Tour quarter-final. Last week he captured his eighth career ATP World Tour title at Delray Beach (d. Ram) and the weekend before reached the semi-finals at Memphis (l. to eventual champion Nishikori). The youngest player left in the draw, Fritz (18), is appearing in his second career quarter-final. Two weeks ago reached his first career final at Memphis (d.
