Sanibel Community Association and friends honor and say thank you to our nation’s vet- erans photo by Jeff Lysiak he Community House will continue its series of themed dance parties this season starting on Friday, November 8 with a salute to the USO shows of the T1940s. Music and dancing evoke that period, with swing music for the jitter- bugs and ballads for romantic slow dancing. Prominent local DJ Randy Ray, who was a big hit at the SCA’s Wedding Party Dance last season, will spin the tunes, evoking the USO radio shows of the World War II era. Reinforcing the theme, Bob Hope and Marilyn Monroe impersonators will put in an appearance to “entertain the troops.” For those who need to brush up on their dance steps from the period, there will be Swing Into The Era dance lesson begin- ning at 6:30 p.m. as well as a demonstration dance during the party by Enchanted Ballroom professionals Susan Scott and David Flory. What Sanibel Means To Me by Alex Dunavant anibel Island, Florida, is one of the greatest places on Earth, with all of its extraordinary features. Some of my personal favorites include the lovely Sseashells everywhere you look, and the hot, moist weather and the freedom to relax. There’s a reason why Sanibel Island is the shell capital of the world. Not only are there millions of tiny, sparkly shells of all shapes and sizes everywhere you look, but they’re well known for the outstanding, colorful and detailed designs that make them so beautiful. You’d get lucky to find an alphabet cone or junonia while strolling down Middle Gulf or Buttonwood, yet any seashell, either tiny or enormous, is quite 1975-2019 periwinkle way a delight! Also, when I think of Sanibel, I think of amazing weather. It’s usually warm and humid with an occasional breeze every now and then. This excellent weather is great for beach days, so we can swim, go shelling, and stroll lazily across the bright, tan, sandy shorelines and far into the deep, green ocean that stretches as far as the eye can see. This weather is one of the reasons this island is so popular with tourists and snowbirds, along with most residents. One of the main features that makes Sanibel unique is the freedom to relax. I love relaxing on weekends, calmly stretched out on a small, folding chair, with my toes in the ocean, feeling the shallow waves coming and going. It means kicking back, being free, clearing my mind and having my imagination take me wherever it wants to be. Sanibel Island is a very popular place, for very good reason. With the millions of tiny pieces of shells every which way, and the warm, yet breezy, weather that is key to great relaxation and exploration, Sanibel Island, Florida, is perhaps the greatest place on Earth.

What Sanibel Means To Me by Caiden Rainville have been living on Sanibel Island for 5 years. I have known its beauty since I moved here long ago. Now, I get to share it with all of you. This is what ISanibel means to me. Our beaches are beautiful sandy places. The water washes up and consumes the sand. Taking old shells and bringing new. Each night there are flaming sunsets with brilliant colors. It’s a perfect place to relax and calm yourself. You can listen to the waves, smell the salty air and feel the warm mist on your face. Sanibel has many astonishing waters. They are murky places filled with life. You can swim or boat in the warm Sanibel waters. Relaxing in them is a great way to spend a warm summer afternoon. The waters are also salty and clear. Occasionally if the water is just right, you can look down and see right through the water to the bottom of the ocean. You can see the crabs scuttling to a pile a of seaweed. Tiny fish swimming in big schools. You can even see your feet. You can see the sand moving with the waves, and landing on your toes. The Sanibel waters, are amazing places. Sanibel is not just a place for a relaxing sabbatical; it is also a dwelling for many distinct folks. It is my dwelling too. I am very blissful to live here. I love the commu- nity and nature. I love the way the waves hit the sand. It takes me to another world. Some people don’t see sanibel‘s beauty, but trust me I definitely see it. Everything Something for Everyone about Sanibel is flawless, to me. Can you see it? can you see the beautiful island of Sanibel. It is a truly beautiful place. You should visit it some time! CARD OF THANKS e have just returned home after 7am-9pm 7 days a week another very good vacation, (Summer hours vary) Wstaying with friends on Sanibel. 239-395-1919 We enjoy biking and appreciate the many improvements that have been made to the bike paths since we were last there 18 months ago. Conveniently located on Periwinkle Way across from Sanibel Community Park We found the additional paths useful and the work to widen them and remove cracks and bumps made our rides much better. This has been a lot of work and we would like to thank those responsible for it. This was certainly true for Matt and Terri Kirchner and their son, NChance, island residents and owners of Kirchner Contracting, Inc. When the Kirchners needed first-class care, they received it at Golisano Children’s Hospital. They said, “Last year, our then 13-year-old son’s routine physical turned into an emergency admission into Golisano Children’s Hospital, with a diagnosis of Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. Needless to say, we were shocked, heartbroken and frightened. From the moment we arrived at the hospital, every staff member and medical profes- sional we encountered was sincerely compassionate, kind, skilled, and committed to stabilizing and caring for our son, Chance.” Within a short time after his admission, Chance’s pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Kahn, came to the room and spoke to Chance. He explained the condition and reas- sured him that although incurable, Type 1 diabetics can live long, healthy lives through proper management of lifestyle, diet and insulin. During the remainder of Chance’s hospitalization, the Golisano Children’s Hospital staff reinforced this claim by surround- ing the family with support, care and education, which has equipped them to manage this disease and believe that Chance will indeed live a long and healthy life.
