CONAGRA FOODS HAWAII BOWL - UH’S FOURTH BOWL BID The Warriors posted a 9-3 record in 2001 and did not receive an invitation to a No Name (Pos, Ht, Wt, Hometown/Last School) bowl game, but that has changed this season with the newly created ConAgra 55 o Alapai Andrews Foods Hawai‘i Bowl. The win over San Jose State on Nov. 2, 2002 marked the (OL, 6-0, 298, Honolulu/Punahou School) seventh of the season for the Warriors and prompted the nation’s first bowl invitation of 2002. The 81 o Omar Bennett (WR, 5-11, 178, Los Angeles, CA/Laney CC) ConAgra Foods Hawai‘i Bowl, owned and operated by ESPN, is UH’s fourth overall bowl game 13 d Keith Bhonapha appearance and second under head coach June Jones. Hawai‘i posts a 2-1 record in bowl games, (DB, 5-9, 197, Oakland, CA/Skyline HS) 1-0 under Jones. The Warriors made their bowl game debut in the 1989 Jeep Eagle Oahu Bowl (head 54 d Chris Brown coach Bob Wagner) that resulted in a 33-13 loss to Michigan State. In 1992, the Warriors beat Illinois, (LB, 6-1, 255, Kahaluu, Oahu/Damien HS) 27-17, in the Thrifty Car Rental Holiday Bowl in San Diego, CA (head coach Bob Wagner). In 1999, 23 d Sean Butts Hawai‘i beat Oregon State, 23-17, in the Jeep Oahu Bowl (head coach June Jones). Miller HS) COLBERT REACHES 2,000-YARD MARK/MAKING MARK IN UH RECORD BOOKS 58 d Laanui Correa Wide receiver Justin Colbert (5-7, 178, Sr, Rialto, CA/A.B. Miller HS), the lone returning starter at (DL, 6-5, 264, Honolulu/UNLV) receiver, became the school’s sixth player to reach the 2,000-yard mark in receiving with his 120 53 o Lui Fuata yards against Nevada on Oct. 12, 2002. Colbert has also reached the century mark four times this sea- (RB, 5-11, 236, Oceanside, CA/Palomar College) son (four of the last eight games) and currently has five 100-yard games in his career. He also holds the 49 o Mat McBriar sixth spot in all-purpose yardage with 2,921 career yards and is currently ranked second in the (P, 6-0, 221, East Brighton, Australia/Brighton Grammar School) WAC and 16th nationally in receptions per game (6.38) and third in the WAC and 25th nationally 24 o Thero Mitchell in receiving yards per game (88.0).
