History of the Race

With the Ronde van Vlaanderen or Tour of Flanders as it is more common- ly known, celebrating its 100th edition in 2016 (having only missed 3 editions since its inception in 1913 due toWorld War 1), now really is the to sample this incredible race route first hand. 63 of the 99 editions have been won by a Belgium rider, with the race and tactics required to win it, evolving over time. No rider has won more than 3 editions, leading to many saying that to win this particular racer requires a huge amount of luck, above and beyond that of the other Spring Classics. The route has changed over the years with the current race route having been used since 2012 when the race finish moved to . The Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg now feature as the final two climbs of the route, witnessing some of the biggest battles in professional cycling. Tour of Flanders Long Route 75km – 1800m Elevation Gain

The Tour of Flanders is an icon of the Spring Classics and our experience ride delivers all the highlights from the race’s 100 year history. With an incredible format designed by the LDT team and a local race ex- pert with in depth knowledge of every aspect of this incredible race and area, this is the defining Flanders experience. We’ll tackle the the iconic climbs of the modern race route including the Oude Kwaremont, the infamous Koppenberg and the race’s finale, the Pa- terberg. Strong riders will be able to include an additional loop of cobbled climbs if they can hold the required average speed.

Itinerary

• Guests will be collected from a pre-arranged point at the M25/M20 junction on the morning of the experience at 5am. • We’ll transfer bikes, riders and bags in our fully equipped custom support vehicles to the Channel Tunnel for a 6.50am crossing. • 1hr 45 min drive to Oudenaarde for the start of the ride, before get- ting underway and tackling 75km of Flanders history. • Fully supported experience ride with guide rider, GPS supported route and follow support carrying all your extra clothing, extra nutrition and water. • Sandwich lunch provided mid-ride. • We finish the ride at the Tour of Flanders Museum where we’ll en- joy a Belgian beer and a plate of frites, before changing and trans- ferring back to Calais for an evening tunnel back to the UK. • Just £99pp. • Also available to private groups of 6-18 riders on a range of dates. • To book or discuss a private booking please contact [email protected] Le Domestique Bespoke Tour of Flanders Experience Ride 21st May2016
