Fc18 Vip-Map Eng Web.Pdf 102nd TOUR OF FLANDERS Sunday 1 April 2018 Last year, spectators of the Tour of Flanders, which celebrated its 101st anniversary, were treated to yet another epic race. For the first time in the Tour’s history, the start was moved to the heart of Antwerp’s magnificent historic city centre. The race itself proved to be an absolutely thrilling experience, with hun- dreds of thousands of fans lining Flemish roads. And finally, we celebrated the return of the iconic Muur van Geraardsbergen in the circuit. But the real cherry on the cake was Belgian champion Philippe Gilbert’s incredible break, a fitting end to a solo 55 km ride. The 102nd edition of “Flanders’ Finest” will undoubtedly continue the tradition of offering a spectacle like no other. Antwerp will once again be the epicentre of the cycling world for a day. Meanwhile, the Paterberg- Oude Kwaremont tandem impatiently awaits the arrival of the gladiators on their bicycles while the city of Oudenaarde is already gearing up for an epic climax. Cyclists and cycling fans from all corners of the world will spend months looking forward to Sunday 1 April. Because on this day, an entire nation is roused by this thrilling cycling race. After Ghent-Wevelgem last week, today he attacked for another 140 kilometres with five others in the Tour of Flanders. “It was great,” Ganna explained. “On the climbs, the fans were yelling so much that I couldn’t even hear myself. The DS every now and then, spoke and I told him to say it again, I couldn’t hear because of the fans. “I like that I’m doing well from the start in these races, but I need to still learn now to race here in the North. Every bit of energy you save, counts. I can’t even think of Roubaix now, I’m too tired.” Niki Terpstra (Quick-Step Floors) won the race solo with 12 seconds over Dane Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) and 17 seconds over his team-mate Philippe Gilbert.     EXCLUSIVE TOUR DE YORKSHIRE SAMPLE FOREWORD by Ned Boulting Dear Road Book Reader, April without my annual trip from pillar to post within the confines of God’s Own County is not really April. I will miss this race more acutely than almost any other on the calendar. In its five iterations it has given us wind, hale, snow, rain, bright sunshine and endless drama often within the time it takes to say “Sutton Bank” or “Hebden Bridge”. Last year’s race was a good case in point, and it started with the sight of Harry Tanfield working on the front of the peloton to catch the break, in an interesting role reversal from 2018, when of course he was the one escaping to victory. Jesper Asselman’s surprise win on stage one was just a prelude to some masterful displays from both the men and the women, with Marianne Vos delivering a display of total control and awe onto the famous Scarborough seafront finish at its very windiest. It absolutely howled. Alexander Kamp won the men’s race and took the race lead into the final stage. But Team Ineos cracked it again, Chris Lawless well served by Chris Froome, against which even the mighty defending champion Greg van Avermaet was powerless. For Lawless, it was his biggest ever win. But the winner, once again, was the county. It turned out with passion, knowledge, fervour and loyalty to a race it has made its own. 2019, like all the years that went before, was a true Yorkshire gem. I hope beyond hope we all will return again.
