Of Love/Glove, part of his ‘rhyme paintings’ series, Craig- Martin noted, “The conjunction of ‘Love’ and ‘Glove’ has very strange implications... one doesn’t quite know what they are, there’s room for some interpretative manoeuvres. And that speculative manoeuvring is one of the best things about any work of art.” The print is signed and dated by the artist. Measurements: 29 1/4 x 26 inches Donated by Gagosian Gallery Value: $1,080 101 Ellsworth Kelly, Purple (2001) Ellsworth Kelly, who recently marked his 91st birthday, is one of the most celebrated artists globally, with works featured in the collections of major museums around the world. Kelly is known for his individual approach to painting and sculpting, and also his powerful, often monochromatic canvases and prints, which distill both color and shape to their very essence. This lithograph, printed at Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles, is one of an edition of 45. Unframed measurements: 46 7/8 x 36 inches Donated by Gemini G.E.L. LLC Value: $13,500 102 Michael Muller, Black Magic (2014) Acclaimed American photographer Michael Muller is renowned for his celebrity portraits, and advertising and wildlife photos. In this stunning life-sized print of a shark, one of his favorite subjects, Muller provides a glimpse into the mysterious, dark depths of the ocean. Muller traveled to South Africa to photograph sharks, using his self-created and patented waterproof strobe lights, for his book coming out in 2015 from Taschen. Seize the opportunity to acquire this one-of-a-kind Muller print in advance of the book release. Unframed measurements: 44 x 64 inches Donated by Michael and Kimberly Muller Value: $7,100 103 John Newsom, Before the Feast (2014) John Newsom, voted among the “Top 20 Artists in America” by FLASH ART magazine in 2013, is best known for his gestural paintings of naturalistic subject matter. Before the Feast is a one-of-a-kind oil on paper creation, specifically made for The New York Stem Cell Foundation’s 2014 Gala. Featuring a spectacular close-up of a leopard, this piece combines Newsom’s thematic focus on animals with his stylistic motif of hard-edge monochromatic geometric shapes integrated into the composition. Unframed measurements: 30 x 22 inches Donated by John Newsom Value: $12,500 104 Yigal Ozeri, Untitled: Megan (2012) New York-based Israeli artist Yigal Ozeri is renowned for his large-scale cinematic portraits of young women in vast ambiguous landscapes that transcend reality. A master of the photo-realistic painting technique, Ozeri captures the true spirit of his subjects. Untitled: Megan, a watercolor, gouache and graphite portrait on paper, is an elegant depiction of a young, pensive girl in a park, exemplifying Ozeri’s practice. Measurements: 14.875 x 21.625 inches Donated by Yigal Ozeri LLC Value: $8,000 105 Hiroshi Sugimoto + U2, Boden Sea, Uttwil (1993) Boden Sea, Uttwil is a special limited edition offset lithograph signed, for the first time, by all members of U2. Bono, drawn to Sugimoto’s series of seascape photographs of Lake Constance, met with Sugimoto and took notes on his work. Those notes became the foundation for the title track “No Line on the Horizon” of U2’s 12th studio album by the same name, which debuted at No. 1 in 30 countries with 5 million copies sold by June 2009. Boden Sea, Uttwil is the text-free jacket cover of the album, which Rolling Stone magazine hailed as “an early front runner for album cover of the year.” This is edition 20 of 100. Measurements: 27 11/16 x 27 11/16 inches Donated by Yoshii Gallery Value: $4,000 106 CHRISTO, Wrapped Snoopy Doghouse, Project for the Charles M. Schultz Museum, Santa Rosa, California (2004- 2005) Christo, along with his late wife and partner, Jeanne-Claude, has produced several of the most monumental works of public art in modern times, including The Gates in Central Park, which brought more than one million visitors to Central Park in 2005. Charles M. Schultz was an admirer of Christo’s work and featured him in a 1978 Peanuts comic strip. Christo returned the compliment by creating the Wrapped Snoopy House for the Charles M. Schultz Museum, Santa Rosa, California. This is a hand- collaged lithograph plan of the three dimensional piece. This item is signed and numbered AP 24/50. (Copy of Schultz comic strip attached on back of work.) Measurements: 24 ½ x 21 ¼ inches Donated by Christo Value: $5,500 107 Ryan and Trevor Oakes, Predictum (2014) Identical twin artists Ryan and Trevor Oakes are noted for the development of a new method of tracing the world. Through the use of a concave metal easel of their own creation, they are able to sketch completely freehand and by eye alone. This technique embraces the dual nature of sight, the angles at which our human eyes see images, and is described by Columbia University’s perceptual historian Jonathan Crary as one of the most original breakthroughs in the rendering of visual space since the Renaissance. Predictum (2014) is an intricate ink- drawn design examining depth and perception. Measurements: 12 x 12 inches Donated by Ryan and Trevor Oakes Value: $1,200 108 Gerri Davis, Dance study: Ropeswing (2011) Dance study: Ropeswing, a lithograph by up-and-coming contemporary artist Gerri Davis, is the 3rd edition of 20. Combining the past and present, realism and conceptualism, it pays homage to artists Henri Matisse and William Blake. Depicting painter Ryan Oakes doing acrobatic maneuvers, Davis puts her own stamp on this historical composition of dancing figures by altering the perspective to create an elevated view. Unframed measurements: 22 x 30 inches Donated by Gerri Davis Value: $900 ARCHITECTURE 200 Tour of Frank Gehry’s Studio, LA Philharmonic Concert at Walt Disney Hall, One Night at The Standard Hollywood Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity for you and a friend to tour Frank Gehry’s studio and extraordinary Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. • Go-Go to Glory
Durable Lollar found niche as White Sox anchor, run-producer By John McMurray Soft spoken and self-effacing, Sherman Lollar provided a strong defensive presence be-hind the plate during his 12 seasons with the Chicago White Sox. An All-Star catcher in seven seasons of his 18-year major-league career, Lollar won the first three American League Gold Glove awards from 1957 through 1959. Although he was not known as a power hitter, Lollar hit 155 career home runs and collected 1,415 hits. He also produced one of the White Sox’ few bright moments in the 1959 World Series apart from their Game One victory, a two-out, three-run homer that tied Game Four in the seventh inning. (Unfortunately the Sox lost that game, 5-4.) Even though Lollar played well and received awards during the 1950s, he did not receive as much national recognition as fellow catcher Yogi Berra, who won three Most Valuable Player awards. As Red Gleason wrote in The Saturday Evening Post in 1957, “It is the fate of some illustrious men to spend a career in the shadow of a contemporary. Adlai Stevenson had his Dwight Eisenhower. Lou Gehrig had his Babe Ruth. Bob Hope had his Bing Crosby. And Sherman Lollar has his Yogi Berra.” John Sherman Lollar Jr. was born on August 23, 1924, in Durham, Arkansas. His father, John Sherman Lollar Sr., had been a semipro baseball player and was a veteran of World War I. When Lollar Jr. was three years old, he moved with his family to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where his parents opened a grocery store.

ABSTRACT In March of 2012, Forbes Magazine ranked the most valuable brands in all of sports. Trailing only Manchester United’s $2.235 billion valuation, the next most valuable franchises are Spain’s Real Madrid of La Liga BBVA, and Major League Baseball’s New York Yankees. As the two of the three most dominant brands in all of sports, Real Madrid and the New York Yankees are frequently mentioned in the same context as one another, but rarely discussed through more extensive market research comparing their brand management strategies. By utilizing Kevin Keller’s acclaimed Customer-Based Brand Equity model, the relative strength of the brands for Real Madrid and the New York Yankees will be assessed based on their ability to successfully integrate six core components within their brand: brand salience, brand performance, brand imagery, brand judgments, brand feelings, and brand resonance.
