Glen Cove residents celebrated their religious diversity by enjoying two Village Square events as part of the City’s “Celebrate the Season” festivities. On Friday, December 4, Father Daniel of St. Patrick’s and St. Rocco’s Catholic Churches provided the blessing of the City’s beautiful Crèche. The event, hosted by parishioner and former Glen Cove Police Sergeant, Jack McDougal featured special prayers, remarks from Mayor Spinello along with singers from the St. Patrick's Chidren's Choir, hot cocoa provided by the Downtown Café. McDougal noted that this is the 10th year of the blessing of the crèche. “Throughout the last 10 years many of you have been with us during the rain, the cold and yes one night even snow… When we build the crèche ten years ago we never expected that the “blessing of the crèche” would become an ennaul event, however thanks to your Father Daniel, the Pastor of St Patrick Catholic enthusiasm and support we continue to Church, blesses the crèche accompanied by Father gather to celebrate the true meaning of Ambros, Father Gabriel and Father Elias and Christmas, the birth of our Lord Jesus assisted by altar servers Maxwell Kramer and Christ.” Gabriele Massaro. Building character one boy at a time One hundred and eight years ago, Robert Baden-Powell founded the Scouting movement in England. Three years later, it took a foothold in the United States and has had a profound influence on American society ever since. Today, Cub Scouts Pack 6 of Glen Cove faithfully continue that proud tradition. Leaders comprised of parents and volunteers help guide boys ages 6 to 11 towards responsible citizenship, strength of character and self discipline. Indeed, all meetings begin with an oath of honor in pursuit of these goals. Boys of diverse cultural backgrounds from Deasy Elementary, Landing School and All Saints Regional gather weekly with their dens. In doing so, they’re in the good company of more than 2.4 million youth members and almost 1 million adult volunteers in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) organization. Throughout the year, pack 6 participates in a wide variety of service oriented programs such as canned food drives, senior home visitations and park clean ups. In addition, outreach events such as the upcoming annual “Pack 6 Spaghetti FUNdraiser” further unite the Glen Cove community. Join the local Cub Scouts and their families for a festive time on Sunday, Dec. 13th at St. Rocco’s Parish from 4 to 6pm. Can donations for the pantry are encouraged.
