Malmaison and Hotel Du Vin Hotel Chains Install Proxim Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Mesh Systems for Guest Internet Access Malmaison and Hotel du Vin Hotel Chains Install Proxim Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Mesh Systems for Guest Internet Access Airangel states Proxim Wireless Mesh provides broadband access speeds and reduces installation time San Jose, March 25, 2008 — Proxim Wireless Corporation (NASDAQ: PRXM), a leader in core-to-client solutions for broadband wireless networks, today announced that in conjunction with its partner, Airangel, it has supplied broadband wireless mesh equipment to the Malmaison and Hotel du Vin Hotel Chains. The Malmaison and Hotel du Vin Hotels can now offer wireless internet access to their guests throughout the 22 hotels located across the UK. Airangel, a specialist in providing guest internet access solutions, has been responsible for deploying Proxim wireless networks in 11 Malmaison and 11 Hotel du Vin hotels, the UK's leading lifestyle hotels. Proxim AP-700s were installed in each hotel in addition to Proxim AP-4000s in a mesh environment at the Malmaison hotel in Manchester, where the public space areas of the building were particularly awkward to network due to cabling restrictions. "Some of the hotels are very old buildings and required wireless mesh to seamlessly connect areas that were not possible to connect via ethernet. Wireless Mesh allowed us to provide our customers with broadband access speeds, while reducing our network installation time. For example the Hotel du Vin in Birmingham is the old Eye Hospital and was a tricky building to re- cable, so installing a wireless network was the only viable solution," explained Chris Airey, Operations Director of Airangel. "Our hotel guests expect the best service and providing wireless internet access was essential. We were looking for a wireless network, which was reliable and robust, so Airangel specified the Proxim solution, which they managed to install with the least disruption to the running of the hotels," said Mark Jelley, IT Director at Malmaison and Hotel du Vin Hotels. "We are planning to increase the number of hotels to 26 by the end of 2008 and plan to install wireless networks in each one of them." "Working together with Airangel, we have delivered a robust and cost-effective secure wireless network. The Proxim infrastructure really comes into its own when there are difficult buildings to network, providing a highly reliable solution," said Anthony Fulgoni, VP International Strategic Sales for Proxim Wireless. About Malmaison and Hotel du Vin Hotels Malmaison and Hotel du Vin are recognized as the UK's leading lifestyle hotel group across the UK. The Malmaison hotels are primarily located in city centres and are mid-sized, operating in the 'boutique/lifestyle' market. The Hotel du Vin hotels are primarily based in cathedral or university towns and are generally smaller hotels than Malmaison. About Airangel Airangel was formed in 2002 as a direct consequence of Claremont Group Interiors (CGI) having to solve guest internet access for both its own Nomadic workforce and its VIP clients. Airangel has since developed into a 'best of breed' supplier of guest internet access solutions providing clients with the highest speed, most robust and secure networks, while delivering an end- user ease of use experience second to none, at the lowest cost of ownership in the industry. • Pricewaterhousecoopers' Fourth European Lifestyle
Hospitality Directions Europe Edition* Issue 14 September 2006 Standing out in a crowd: PricewaterhouseCoopers’ fourth European Lifestyle Hotel Survey 2006 Sea changes in consumer lifestyles continue to drive this niche segment The lifestyle hotel sector continues to be driven by a talent for innovation, spectacle, experience and value for money. These points of differentiation give it a competitive edge and have raised the bar for the hotel sector as a whole. Their position at the forefront of contemporary design has made lifestyle hotels high-profile trendsetters with real consumer appeal - but increasingly only where their product and service are aligned with the aspirations of their target customers. Higher growth – but higher volatility – Our 2006 research into the lifestyle hotel sector ranked the top 25 European lifestyle operators. This year the top players operate a total of 141 hotels with 11,386 rooms and have seen a 5.9 per cent increase in room capacity compared to a year ago. We also analysed the performance of 60 UK lifestyle hotels, accounting for over 4,000 rooms and forecast future outlook. This analysis showed that, while subject to the general UK hotel sector trends, the performance metrics of the sample displayed greater volatility than the sector as a whole and that looking forward lifestyle hotels will continue to achieve good room rate growth giving RevPAR gains of 7 per cent this year, 4.1 per cent in 2007 and 4.8 per cent in 2008. Smaller operators still leading the way – While many larger hotel chains continue to try to emulate lifestyle hotels’ distinctive offer, we found that the real action in terms of innovation and value for money is still being driven by the smaller operators - particularly in the new, up-and- coming branded budget lifestyle segment.
