BOOK 4.book Page 1 Monday, October 1, 2001 4:06 PM SCIENTOLOGY Making the World a Better Place Founded and developed by L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology is an applied religious philosophy which offers an exact route through which anyone can regain the truth and simplicity of his spiritual self. Scientology consists of specific axioms that define the underlying causes and principles of existence and a vast area of observations in the humanities, a philosophic body that literally applies to the entirety of life. This broad body of knowledge resulted in two applications of the subject: first, a technology for man to increase his spiritual awareness and attain the freedom sought by many great philosophic teachings; and, second, a great number of fundamental principles men can use to improve their lives. In fact, in this second application, Scientology offers nothing less than practical methods to better every aspect of our existence—means to create new ways of life. And from this comes the subject matter you are about to read. Compiled from the writings of L. Ron Hubbard, the data presented here is but one of the tools which can be found in The Scientology Handbook. A comprehensive guide, the handbook contains numerous applications of Scientology which can be used to improve many other areas of life. In this booklet, the editors have augmented the data with a short introduction, practical exercises and examples of successful application. Courses to increase your understanding and further materials to broaden your knowledge are available at your nearest Scientology church or mission, listed at the back of this booklet.

  • Church of Scientology Nashville Mobilizes Scientology Volunteer Ministers to Cope with Floods
6 May 2010 For Immediate Release Church of Scientology Nashville Mobilizes Scientology Volunteer Ministers to Cope with Floods NASHVILLE—The Church of Scientology & Celebrity Centre Nashville mobilized Volunteer Ministers to staff shelters at Lipscomb University and McGavock High School over the weekend when the Cumberland River overflowed its banks and flooded downtown Nashville, causing thousands of residents and visitors to evacuate homes and hotels. Flooding began in low areas and valleys and within 36 hours the Cumberland River overflowed into downtown. Vehicles were swept away, homes were engulfed and authorities were rescuing stranded residents by boat. Muddy water cascaded into The Grand Ole Opry House and Country Music Hall of Fame and forced the evacuation of 1,500 guests and 500 staff from the Opryland Hotel. The Scientology Volunteer Ministers worked with the Red Cross and other community groups to aid evacuees in shelters at Lipscomb University and McGavock High School, including providing food services. They helped evacuated hotel guests find their luggage and make their way to the airport and home. Scientologists also volunteered at a shelter set up at the Jewish Community Center for stranded residents of Belle Meade and Bellevue and helped evacuate tenants of an apartment complex that was about to be engulfed. With waters now receded, the volunteers are helping residents with the daunting task of cleaning up flood damage. “We started with our parishioners whose homes were badly damaged. Now we are going through neighborhoods checking at each home to see if they need help,” said Julie Forney, Public Affairs Director for the Nashville Church of Scientology.

• Alternative Therapy, Dianetics, and Scientology
Marburg Journal of Religion: Volume 15 (2010) Alternative therapy, Dianetics, and Scientology Terra Manca Acknowledgments: Thanks is extended to Timothy Dunfield for his insight into Scientology and for assisting me in locating several relevant documents for this study. Special thanks go to Stephen Kent for his editing and his granting me access to the Kent Collection on Alternative Religions, which is housed in the University of Alberta Library. Thanks also go to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council for providing the funding that allowed me the time and resources to complete this article. Abstract: Since orthodox medicine sets the standard for what is acceptable within the medical arena, some alternative medicines integrate into medicine while others remain separate or face too much scrutiny to continue practicing. In the 1970s, Morely and Wallis (1976) recognized Dianetics and Scientology as a “marginal medicine,” and from the 1960s to 1970s several government organizations worldwide investigated the group. Consequently, Scientology retreated from the medical arena, claiming that it was a religion and establishing boundaries to insulate itself from regulation. Despite Scientology’s attempted retreat, Dianetics and Scientology doctrines and practices continue to reflect concerns and actions that belong to what Tovey and Adams (2001) identify as the social world of alternative medicine. In this article, I outline Scientology’s position within the medical arena, how that position has transformed over time, and Scientology’s isolation from the dominant social world within that arena (specifically scientific medicine). It is nearly impossible to imagine Western society without the presence of scientific medicine. Prior to the last 130 to 180 years, however, competition for legitimacy between various healing organizations within the medical arena occurred on relatively equal terms (Morely and Wallis 1976:9; Tovey and Adams 2001:698; Samson 1999:3).

1 Review by the Ombudsman, French Services, CBC/Radio-Canada of a complaint regarding the article by journalist Gaétan Pouliot entitled L’Église de scientologie profite de la crise pour faire sa publicité, selon une ex- membre, posted on April 19, 2020, on Radio-Canada.ca. COMPLAINT On April 20, 2020, Ms. Bari Berger, head of public affairs of the Church of Scientology International, filed a complaint about the story L’Église de scientologie profite de la crise pour faire sa publicité, selon une ex-membre, written by journalist Gaétan Pouliot and posted on Radio- Canada.ca on April 19, 2020. [Ed. note: The Church of Scientology International is the governing body of the various Scientology-related organizations around the world.] The complaint is reproduced in full and appended to this review, which was initially written in French and then translated into English. In the foreword to her complaint, Ms. Berger described the author of the story, Gaétan Pouliot, as “a journalist with a history of producing biased, anti-Scientology articles.” She lamented the fact that he “is permitted to continue writing on the subject, in spite of the fact that Radio-Canada promotes its adherence to standards of ethical journalism, and in spite of the fact that there is nothing objective or journalistic whatsoever in his discriminatory coverage.” She went on to say, about the article in question: “In Mr. Pouliot’s story of today, he attacks Scientology Volunteer Ministers for their work in bringing badly needed supplies and informational material to those on the frontlines of this crisis [Note: the COVID-19 pandemic] even as these volunteers risk their health and lives to simply help others.” The complainant then wondered whether Radio-Canada would have published a similar article had it been about Jewish or Muslim volunteers.

It is the first public performance, especially for you. (musical performance) (plane noise) L. Ron Hubbard-Greetings to the executives and staff of your performing org. Recently, I brought about a reorganization for you. I gave you a very specific and positive terminal in the Flag Bureau to take care of your needs. I’m very interested in your growing up, and getting big, and taking control of your area, and becoming very full fledged and very much able to handle your area. You shouldn’t worry about the difficulties the public is having. You’re there to handle the public. You shouldn’t worry about the fact that they are very often hostile. Saving mankind is not unlike trying to drag a wounded water buffalo out of a water hole. Above all else, it takes confront. The environment of man has been muddied up by psychiatry and psychology. Scientology over the world is putting them on the run. Their day has ended. Their star has set. We are the new future, and we are making it good. And I expect your org to carry on, hold the form of the org, get fully manned and ready to go, and take off like a rocket.
